Help!! Losing Coolant

Yesterday my low coolant light came on. i filled it back up and then about 3 hours later it came on again. so i pulled over popped the hood and it was low again. i crawled underneath the car and nothing was leaking underneath. Right now i have the car on the lift and theres still no leakes. wheres the coolant going? Is it the head gasket?? any help would be nice. thanks.

what could of happened is the radiator got low and since you filled the overflow it took all your coolant.

try another fill and see if it eats it up. you could also try popping the large coolant hose on top and see if theres any

actually try popping the hose on a cold engine first and if low then fill through the hose. THEN fill your overflow

oh ok i gotcha. when i popped the hood the second time the cap seemed a little loose but it was still tight. so the pressure could have pushed some out too.

You have a porus block more then likely, it's a 2009 issues they had with some blocks, put it back to stock and go in to the dealer for the new motor.

You have the porous block issue. Go back to stock and prepare to fight. Took me 100+ days of arguing to finally get my motor replaced under warranty. Dealer didnt even know the porous block issue exsisted. Check your oil its most likely milky.

Head gasket eh? Did you have large amounts of white smoke on startup and initial driving?

from what i understand its small pores in the engine block that leak coolant into the oil

I have 17000 miles on my 2009, what are the odds of me having this issue?

I see, I got a low coolant waring at like 7000 miles, but then I threw coolant in it and it hasn't been a problem since.

They like to call them porous blocks, but they are cracking internally, between the water jacket and the oil drainback passages. It is due to the aluminum being too thin through certain areas, but it can show up after you start making more power or loading the engine harder.

Thanks Matt. I hate the term "porous block" solid metal doesn't suddenly start passing fluid without a reason.

So if this "cracking" were to happen to me, does ZZPs block address this issue or can it succumb to it as well?

Granted I'd be cheaper to go get a warranty fix, but if I have to battle with them, I'll just buy one from ZZP and pump up the power lol.

I think the word "porous" just started getting thrown around because of the styrofoam casting marks.

This thread should become a sticky, for Matt's post if nothing else. Cracked blocks should be the new term.

Also Missing Coolant!

Hey, I'm having the same issue here. Here's the thing, there's no leak, and no milky liquid in my oil. My dad is a mechanic but I haven't had him look at it yet. But basically every month and a half I get low on coolant, but there's no smoke, no puddles, nothing! Any help would be appreciated!

Do you have an '09? I think they only warranty for 5 years, so you better get that thing diagnosed ASAP. It looks like only the very late '08 and early '09 cars have the cracked block issue.
