Exclamation Help received code error P0497

I was working on my HID's last night aiming it, then all of a sudden I hear this loud squeal noise out loud in my motor, then it went away and started doing its normal thing with the direct fuel injection. No CEL. I went to AdvanceAutoParts to do a cat scan and received P0497. Says, "EVAP Emission Low Purge Flow Fault". Has anybody had this happened before or what the symptoms that causes this? I don't know if its the KN dropin filter, Castrol Edge Oil, or what? What is the solution of fixing it?

The purge solenoid is bad most likely. Bring it to the dealer and have it replaced under warranty. It has nothing to do with your mods.

Really? Yeah, I was kind of freaking out, then I heard again today once before I went to work. After I was done, I was letting my motor run for a couple of minutes and nothing, no CEL. So I call the dealer and said it had something to do with the fumes in the gas tank or something. Didn't know what he was talking about. I remember I put some CF5 from BG at Exxon to clean the fuel injections after my first olil change at 3000 miles like a week or so. This is what I saw on one website what this error code means

"P0497-EVAC Low Purge This DTC tests for proper intake manifold vacuum flow to the evaporative emission (EVAP) system. The engine control module (ECM) opens the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve and closes the EVAP canister vent solenoid valve. The ECM then monitors the fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor to determine if a vacuum is being drawn on the EVAP system. If vacuum in the EVAP system is less than a predetermined value within a predetermined time, this DTC sets.

well the dealer looked into it and it said that code stopped like 200 cycles ago and erased the code. so no biggie they said. he engine nosie they said they order a insulator from GM, which stops the engine from rattling because engineers were working on a solution, which I was kind of confused.

Just had this one pop up, did you replace the solenoid?

I have a question for you guys. I am receiving the same error code. I have driven around with it for about 4 weeks or so.

If it is a solenoid I plan on taking it to my chevy dealer next week to get it fixed as well as the recent recall for the ignition switch.

How long can you drive around with this code on before something worse happens? Is it bad to not get this fixed right away?

Please let me know,

Thank you,

Shawn

Hey Shawn,

I apologize that I cannot do any diagnosis on the code you are receiving, but if you would like me to contact your preferred dealership regarding this, I would be happy to do so. Please send me a PM with your VIN, current mileage, contact info and a preferred dealership. If you also have any updates on the situation let me know as well.
