k&n, DP: no tune

I'm currently running on a k&n intake and am looking to install a catless DP. Will my car run poorly if not tuned. I will buy a tune however once the budget allows for it.

Yeah, your fueltrims are probably already off. Not bad, but not good either. The DP will net you some small gains but nothing near to what it could be on a tune. It MAY throw a code if you go catless. Seems to be hit or miss. A tune will solve that though. Get a tune and take full advantage of your intake and DP and to eliminate the learn down feature

honestly as for under the hood noise idk cause when I installed my K&N Sri which i did months before I start hearing everything....turbo spooling, bpv diverting air...my engine made all sorts of noise....after the dp i didnt notice much engine noise but what i did notice most from the catless dp was the exhaust note change immediately was deeper ...more pronounced but not loud...still quiet and tame ...till you wot....then its get aggressive..i wash shocked... really didn't expect it...sounded so good to me i decided i dont need an exhaust

I have GMS1 A K&N and a High Flow Catted Downpipe From CIA. THey work great together. No codes. and bit more top end power. mid range feels tighter as well.

I have Interceptors to monitor the Fuel Trims. They are better with my k&n than they were with the factory air box. absolutley love it. I have never thrown a code with the DP either.

Going catless your only real worry would be throwing codes on the 02 sensor. If you get a hi flow catted you have less chance of throwing codes. Allot of people say hahn catless NEVER thows codes. You can always buy a De fowler for the Downpipe 02 bung. You can alway research Downpipes a bit yourself to make a good decision.
The K&n can be adjusted slightly be turning the filter to fix fuel trims.

You will always See Better Gains with a custom tune. But considering i have only GMS1 I am very happy with the Driveability and power gains i got. Not to mention how much Nicer tha car sounds!

Don't understand why anyone would buy an intake and DP before a tune. The tune makes more power than any bolt-on, or all of them combined even (without a tune), and it costs about the same as a catted DP. Guess hearing that whoosh sound combined with an exhaust note is pretty important.

because the smart thing to do is get all your parts before your tune so you dont have to keep getting retuned after every part you put on. and yeah it sounded good with the stock tune lol

Finally someone intelligent ! The smart and logical thing to do is to get your bolt-ons and then tune so you don't burn money getting retuned all the time after adding another part .. duh !

Or you could resist being a ricer and do the one mod that blows all others away power wise. Thats OK though, the whooshing from the useless waste of money intake will entertain you while your engine is blowing up from not having a tune with the intake.

Catless is great, you gotta figure a way around the system.
