knock

Is anyone else getting up to 4 degrees of knock on light acceleration normal driveing on stock tune? I get up to that on stock tune and on trifecta tune. is this false knock or is there some problem? I dont get any when i step on it more than just normal town driving/speeding up to speed limit type acceleration.

I also noticed it doesnt do it unless the car is near or at running temp, so when the motor is cold, no knock.

I dont hear it i see it on my dashdaq.

I've seen the same thing on a couple stock cars, even one with the gmpp tune. I think the timing is just too aggressive in that light load scenario.

lol im sure the cops would like that. U think it will do any harm? cars been running fine for the year iv had it. im guessing its been doing that since day one, i never logged knock till recently.

I should probably get new spark plugs though, whats the part number for stock plugs?

If you have hptuners you can lower the timing in the area that it knocks, make a histogram that looks like the timing table that monitors knock vs rpm/load. Then display the max values and subtract them from your timing tables. But first i would get your fuel trims as close to zero as possible, also i heard fiddling with the cam timing can get rid of most of the knock but i haven't tried it.

This is the knock that i saw after a reflash.

Without hptuners there's not much you can do, i remember setting the alarm on my dashdaq when i would get over 3 degrees of knock retard and it drove me mad, i quickly disabled it.
I wonder if going to the dealer and say you hear detonation if they would take it for a spin and notice it on their datalogger and do something about it.
Its my own tune btw.

im sure if i told them they would just reflash me and see what that does. but then i also loose my tune. u think it will do any damage? i will change spark plugs see if that helps, iv been on these for 20k kms.
Everyone was saying these cars knock from the factory, is this what they were talking about?

People seem to be reporting knock left and right in different RPM bands and under different throttle conditions; it doesn't seem to be consistent. I don't have the RPD and have never logged mine, but a friend of mine data logged the living hell out of his stock prior to tuning his with HP Tuners.

If I remember what he said correctly, he saw no knock at stock timings on 91 octane under any throttle loads throughout the RPM band. When they started tuning, advancing the timing by 2 or 3 degrees over stock non-retarded timings introduced knock until he ran 93. In other words, the LNF is wound pretty tight stock as it is when it comes to timing. I've been hoping to hear opinions from Bill and GettingAUsernameSucks to get their take on it but to the best of my knowledge I've never seen anything posted from them about the stock tune and knock.

i talked to my service guy today about it, told him i saw about 4 degrees of knock on light acceleration. He said, "thats pretty minimal and i dont have anything to worry about, and it will be fine. Baically got the impression that its normal. so i guess i wont worry about it, it hasnt caused any problems and im sure its been doing it since iv had the thing so whatever. ill just change out plugs. im on 94 octane to so that didnt help.
