LNF Compression Test

I suspect my car is having an issue with compression (possibly a bad ring). I plan on doing a compression test tomorrow. Already got the tool, but now my question is what is the proper procedure to do it with the LNF?

I know I need to pull the fuse for the fuel pump and let it run until it dies, but what do I need to disconnect regarding the ignition/coils, should I do the test while the motor is cold, or let it get to operating temp first, and lastly should I pull all the plugs while testing the cylinders or only pull the plug of the cylinder I'm checking?

Unplug all the coil packs & pull all 4 plugs. Hold the throttle open and crank it until you hear 5 or so compression strokes on the cyl you are testing or until the gauge quits rising. If it doesn't peak in 5 strokes you have issues anyway.

Should read 150-165 if they are in good shape.

ours will read lower mike. Mine was consistently 130 across the board but the above way is the way I did it. My battery died on the last piston though

Hopefully mine doesn't die

Cool, thanks dude. I bet I would have freaked out if I gotten a lower thing and you didn't tell me haha.

"Oh no! All 4 of my pistons are fucked"

Dont drive it any more than you must with a possible bad piston, you could take the risk of scoring the cylinder/sleeve, requiring new sleeves or a block. Wiseco makes nice pistons if you find you need a new set.

damn, how could you have a bad piston already? thats not very common on here, at least from my observation.

Recently did an oil change on my car, smelled fuel from the oil(I have no sense of smell almost so when I smell anything it always catches my attention). So I figured I'd see if I'm getting blow by. I know of a few people who have had issues with blow by actually. Just trying to see if I'm over thinking it or if there actually is a problem.

hmmm my car always smells like gas when its running at idle. I dont think I could locate an issue via smell with my car.

Just t o confirm,

this needs to be done?

I need to pull the fuse for the fuel pump and let it run until it dies?

my oil smells like it has gas in it too. but my compression test was good. Turbo cars have some natural blowby as the piston rings arent a 100% seal.

I have never smelled it but my oil sample that i previously did had a larger than average amount of fuel in it. I think it may be the nature of the beast.

That was 30k miles ago.
