p0087

Got this code earlier today which is a low fuel rail pressure code and have 32800 miles on the meter. I have the mods listed in my sig but im not tuned yet. My question is would bringing the car into the dealer with my mods void my warranty considering that none of those my part would effect the high pressure fuel pump? I read that the only way you could get your warranty denied is from aftermarket parts causing the problem try to be fixed. Also, i have read that the high pressure pump comes defected in some cars. Im really unsure of what to do? I do still have the stock intercooler piping and airbox that has the snorkle modded to slap back if needed. Thanks for the any help

They will blacklist you.

I am blacklisted, I knew what I was getting into though. Good thing it's a cobalt, parts are cheap.

What the dealer will say is, "You have components on your car that are designed to increase the power output of the engine. that caused excess stress on the pump and is the cause of the failure, it will not be warrantied."

At this point, you have two options, pay up, or call GM Customer Support and ask them to look into it.
If you chose option 1. your done. go home a little lighter in the wallet but youll be ok.

If you chose option 2. You will receive a phone call from GM warranty claims division saying "We spoke to the service manager and agree that this is not a covered under the terms of your warranty."
Again, you can choose to pay up and have it fixed, or argue with the GM warranty representative.
Option 2 goes something like this:
"But sir, the Moss-Magnuson act says they have to prove the components caused the failure and I havent seen any proof" to which the representative will say "Well, I have, and its not covered. you can't expect GM to pay for parts that break cus you put stuff on your car that GM didnt design" To which you are now left two options. Pay up or take them to court.
If you pay up, itll cost you 200+$ or so.
If you go to court, itll cost you probably closer to 7-8k $ in court costs, fees and lawyers and will take so long youll end up paying to have it fixed anyway.

pay up and save yourself the headache.

We've said it before and we'll say it again. "It depends on the dealer."

looks like a cant choose either option cause the pervious owner of the car voided the warranty for me and is on the database as void warranty... curious if changing the pump is difficult as it seems to only be 2 fuel lines, a harness, and a few bolts to change?

a HPFP should be handled with care, if you havent done it, get someone who has to show you how to safely depressurize and remove it.
