People with the S1 cams, chime in!

I was wanting to know if anyone else with the Stage 1 Cams notice a hesitation and missing at anything below 2krpms or so or if its just in my tune? I sometimes drive that low when I'm around the city, police, or just plain trying to be quiet!

Yes, sure does before Matt put an updated map in. I would have to keep my rev over 2k. Tim explained it to me but I don't remembered what it was now. It's a new startup/idle map in the 2010' LNF. At startup, it is a lot smoother and flywheel rattles is gone and of course the problem with under 2k is gone. I am sure ZZP/Matt has the answer. Btw, the 4.45 gear works great with the S256. GL.

I have tuned a couple cars with the cams. One car had thier pcm flashed for the cams.... I dont mean to bash but dang... I have no idea what they were thinking with thier tuning here. Everything on that car seemed backwards causing massive boost spikes over 30psi, 5-8*kr in daily driving under 3000rpms "thats the hesitant feeling your talking about" ITS KNOCKING!, Maf was maxed out adding as much fuel as possible, and I have no idea what they did with idle.... it idled so bad that we thought the cam timing was off majorly and tore the timing cover and valve cover back off to check. Ended up just throwing that tune away and starting fresh.

. Tuned a few as well, and I don't have hesitation issues. (Brants car has a issue but his is due to a bad voltage drop when his fans turn on lol )

Raise the idle slightly. Ive had a couple cars that are jittery when the fans kick on. bumping up the idle rpm seems to help it make the transition a little smoother. You can rescale the target idle speed table to have the idle raise at the temp you have the fans kick on. Just work those two tables together and it should help. These arnt v8s lol they are 4 bangers. Look how high street bikes idle facotry. But yea I havnt had any issues with just tuning them from scratch, just the one car that had thier flash for the cams.

Lol.. I did exactly that.. still does it. His voltage drops lower then 11v when fans come on or he turns the wheel... (Alternator issue) .. I've raised idle, and etc. I tried it all, so its not the tune lol. It's the actual cars alternator. Its not to shabby so he isn't replacing it he said.

And I know its not a v8 lol I tune plenty enough v8s to know the differences.

My tune was good before and the only issue was under 2k but with the upadated tune, the car is perfect. I am really surprised that their tune was off by that much? It sounded like the tune for another car? Mind has no boost spike or anything crazy like that. Confused..

Yeah, I got told by Matt that I didn't need a retune but I obviously do since multiple other people are experiencing the same symptoms before a retune. I guess if the engine goes it isn't my fault...bout to go back to James if I can't get this fixed, except this time I'm driving to him...

Yeah, the trims are def off just a lil bit as well. Lost boost for a bit on a 24psi pull earlier today due to a maf code. Might be the humidity but I'm def seeing a tuner sometime, whether its James or ZZP. Either or...also tested how well the S256 pulls against my cousins 08 WRX with an Exhaust. Of course I freight trained him but expected to pull a lil harder on 24psi.

Yeah, pretty much....doesn't seem like anything was done but I was assured I didn't need retuned.

You free this weekend, James?

Are you joking? I said you didn't need a retune to fix the fact that your car would barely run. Wasn't I right? You found that the throttle body coupler had popped off. When you later said you noticed some choppiness in the low RPMs, I said that we can set up the cams more conservative down there.

I never got a response until just a lil while ago. I assumed you didn't want to tweak my tune because you felt there was mechanical issues with the car.

Seriously? My PM response to you asking about the cams was this-

You can always get a scan and see what the cams are doing when it feels choppy. We can make adjustments to smooth it out if necessary.
I really do not see your grounds for acting like you are right now. It seems that you are trying make an issue between zzp and yourself to justify your next move of going to James for tuning. This is no offense meant towards James. I'm sure he will put forth a solid effort to get you what you want out of your car. The fact still remains that he will not be able to tune your ZZP setup as well as ZZP can.

I just told you I never got a response from you until just a while ago....I assumed that you did not want to retune me before getting the response via the thread you had made previously and took it I was only getting a canned tune from you guys with no logging.

It was a couple hours before your post. Sorry if you had not read my response yet, but you came in here stating so matter of fact that I am insisting that you don't need any tuning, when that never happened except in the case when I stated that you didn't need tune work to solve the specific issue you were having- which was correct.
