removing rear airbags

hey guys i just finished removing my rear seats completely seems to me it took a nice 40-50 pounds out of the car but i can't decide if i should remove the rear airbags since i have the c-pillers off. Does anybody have any opinions on this? or does anyone know how much they weigh? also will they trigger any warning lights if i remove them or are the warning lights only hooked up to the front bags? And if there are warning lights can they be turned off thru hpt? thanks for any info

the airbag light might go off on the dash, disconnect the battery and you should be able to remove them without them going off. And if you don't have a back seat there isn't a reason to have airbags back there

If your going to remove your rear airbags you most def need to disconnect the battery for ATLEAST a half hour before trying to remove any airbag. Otherwise it might blow on you! As far as a warning light and turning it off thru HPT i have no clue! Mabe someone else can chime in there..

Don't only disconnect the battery, also locate the fuse for them and pull that as well. Then wait minimum of 30 minutes before working on them.

It's ok guys, the connectors are "self shorting" so the second you disconnect them their safe to handle. That system is mandatory for all cars made after 05. Also, DONT REMOVE THEM. Even though the rest will work as intended, the car will ignore lateral deployments when the front side impact should have went off and didnt.

The capacitors time out after 2 minutes, then its safe to unplug and remove air bags. Disconnect the negative terminal and wait 2 min. You wont gain a bunch by removing them, and if the system has codes for loss comm. with side airbags, it might prevent your main SRS devices from deploying in a collision. IMO, this would be stupid, esp. in a compact car, you need every advantage you can get in a collision.

What he said.

I regularly disconnect airbags without unhooking the battery or pulling fuses. Takes too much time. Am I taking a gamble? Yeah.. but I've only ever heard of 1 airbag going off while someone was unhooking it.
