Selectable Trifecta and Aftermarket Parts
Selectable Trifecta and Aftermarket Parts
Hey guys, I've done some extensive searching on this and I couldn't find a definitive answer:
If you have a Trifecta selectable tune (that is activated by your Cruise Control or Traction Control button) and aftermarket parts, such as mine, which include K&N SRI and Megan Racing catless DP, how harmful will this be to the ECU when the mods are on the car while running on your factory tune or GMS1 (my current tune) and not running your Trifecta tune?
I know that the point of my trifecta tune is meant to take advantage of these mods, but will running the aftermarket parts of the tune cause a lot of troubles, as I plan to run the GMS1 tune most of the time and hit the Traction Control button when I feel like having some fun. Im sure I know the answer to this already, but verification would be nice.
If it is best to run the Trifecta tune full time, will it hurt the car to turn it on, and hit my traction control button right away to enable the tune or should I just have it so that the Tune is on full time? I was hoping to have the GMS1 tune running most of the time, but I understand the negative side effects to having an intake, even the K&N one on a stock or GMS1 tune.
Anybody know the answers to any of these questions? It would be really nice to know if enabling and disabling the tune so much will have any effect on the car. I know there have to be at least a handful of other people on here that are running the same type of tune with mods who havent thought if running on the stock tune is ok or not.

I would think your stock tune would be changed a bit to adjust for the changes but this isn't something I've ever asked vince. Honestly just email Vince at vince.at.trifectaperformance.com and he will get back to you within the hour. Simple.
I would say to leave the Trifecta tune running, if im correct GMS1 is not tuned for a catless downpipe or an intake, you might throw some codes for cat efficiency of some sort and it may run like total **** without a cat and the GMS1, which is probably setup for the factory downpipe. Fuel trims will also be off with your intake on there, as you seem to have mentioned/understand there are some negatives to having an intake without a tune.
But it couldnt hurt to shoot Vince an email about it

In August, Vince was on vacation for like 2 weeks and the shop was shut down. Maybe you emailed him during that time, and the email was lost in the shuffle. Try emailing him again, he is a busy guy, but is usually quick in responding to emails.
Your on the "Trifecta Tune" in either mode. Vince will tune your car to your mods. You can choose whatever you want for the two settings. You can have 18 psi on one setting and 24 on the other. The 18PSI setting will appear stock to whomever drives it. His tune is another operating system, so none of the tune is OEM.
If u have mods they should be tuned it. If Vince is tuning you correct then both maps will be tuned traction off will prob increase boost and timing and some more fuel. With traction on he will turn boost down and timing down and same with fuel. Well atleast I hope he does....

I just talked to him Friday on the phone
It's already been said here but let me try to clarify for you.
When you have the selectable tune, it has 2 parts. A stock setting and a tuned setting.
Stock setting:
Appears stock to a scanner, and gives the performance of stock settings, but is specifically adjusted for your modifications.
Tuned setting:
Performance setup, more aggressive, tuned for your mods.
Vince also sends a true "stock" file, that is designed to be used if you take off all your mods and go back to stock, like for a dealer visit.

so basically a "stock" tune bolted TF tuned car will be faster than a true stock tune from GM car with the same bolt ons due to the fact the TF stock tune is still technically tweaked for the bolt ons.
I often thought this as my bolted car seems faster in stock tune mode vs when my car was bolted but I had the ppc tuner and removed the tune back to true gm stock.
If that makes any sense

here is my question, if the stock setting isnt truly stock, why is it when i drive in -15+ weather it acts so funny, like it boosts really low and pulls like crap but the boost slowly builds up and by the time ur at 5000 rpm it finally at 15psi. im guessing this is learndown still on there. but if i put it to aggresive tune in the same conditions, no problems, full boost right away, pulls like a rapped pig.

IDK about everyone else but first thing I did when I got my Trifecta stuff was send him a log of my bolted/stock tune. He adjusted then we started tuning up the boost/timing
