shaft play
shaft play
So my car has been acting or rather feeling a bit off lately so I'm going to check shaft play Saturday, but what is "acceptable" in that aspect?
I'm kinda on the fence about what I'd like the out come to be... it may put a trip on hold if it's there but in turn new turbo so yeah..

A little side to side is normal. The way I've always seen it, if you can spin the wheel freely while "wiggling" it and it doesn't hit the compressor housing/stop spinning you're golden. Do a push/pull test on the inducer while spinning. Under load that's the direction the wheel will have pressure and could possibly be hanging up.
If ur turbo is making the proper amount of boost and not making noise , I'd doubt that's ur issue. What exactly does feeling off feel like? What's it doing or not doing?
There should be little shaft play. Some side to side is normal. Check to see if its been hitting the housing. there should be no scratch marks. Also check the turbine blades to see if something has hit it.
That I can do, will just checking from the intake side be good or should I ready myself to remove the whole thing?
