where is the crankshaft sensor located?

Back of the block I believe (firewall), the crank shaft reluctor wheel is pressed onto the crankshaft itself inside the engine. If you look at this GM tech books about building a motor you see them install it.

If I had my service manuals here I'd scan you the exact location, but they are in Iowa

Looks like its right by the Oil filter to me . This is a picture from GM service information for a 09 SS/TC
