Stock k04/ built motor vs. Stock motor/ bolt-on turbo
I am really thinking if you build the motor up and keep the stock ko4, it would be just as fast or slightly faster than a car with a stock motor and a bolt-on turbo at the same price while being safer because the engine is built obviously.
1. ZZP Cam with larger fuel lobe $850
2. ZZP 82# valve springs/retainers $350

I dont know if its just me but if i was gonna drop 2 grand into a motor id be looking to push a little more then 50-60 hp out of it. Considering with all that you could safely push an easy 150+ hp out of it. I mean to each their own but thats just my opinion
your gonna max that K04 out then get the itch to upgrade anyway :p

well, the debate is at 2k you are only getting another about 60-70 whp on 93 outta a bolt-on turbo more than stock, so a built motor at 2k gets you about 50whp more with the things listed, and is obviously stronger and safer.
Hmmm, Good Thread Aaron....I Love your threads my man, I see your point and I do see what your saying and if you do the built motor route your obviously set if you wanna upgrade Turbos safley later on as well.

our rods are good for 500whp is what has been said on here a few times...there are a few that say the valves are good too, but if im in there, im replacing them

Very good thread, me for one, as everyone knows my motor blew. I found out that I actually dropped a valve, which in turn fucked the piston and then tore up the plug. Well I decided that I was going to build the motor. I didn't cheap out either. rods, pistons, valves, retainers...etc etc I did this because I know I will want to go big turbo and when I do, my motor will be ready
Many say the Srt engine is good for 600 (pistons and rods), though if some one is building one to be "safe" with a little lower than that..it's a cheap fix for a weak link. I mean you already have it out and apart.
I'm on stock bottom but many have failed with a lot less.
I'd add rods and a port/polished head with a valve job at min.

Honestly I'm really not to worried about it. I wanted to build the motor anyways, just sucks cuz I didn't want to do it this soon haha. I decided to go with upgraded Carillo Rods with my build. Figured if I was going Weisco pistons might as well get some nice rods to go along with it
You are going to need E85 and alot of luck to hit 370 on the stock turbo. Just buy a turbo kit on the stock motor. Less boost and more power, the safer more reliable way to go if you ask me.

well, i would really like to see DYNO proof of the engine internals i have posted with full bolt-ons and 93.
i'm thinking a good tune and those things would be a solid 370whp/400wtq plus the fast spool of the stock turbo.
people are getting 350-360whp just by using e47 and a stock engine with bolt-ons, so i think its possible, but i would love proof to show me wrong.

you are correct...im pretty sure a built motor car would run .2 -.4 faster...i dont think the bigger turbo would pull till after the quarter mile or right before

i was talking about one vs the other in the 1/4. I bet the built /stock turbo car would run better because of the spool of the turbo and the power of the motor/fuel...

Dude like Dart said the power curve coming from a big turbo is going to eat a stock turbo car no matter what way you look at it. The stocker is going to peak with the boost spike at like 5000 rpms and fall off badly by 7000 and the bigger turbo is going to hang on all the way to 7000. I have gone 11's on the stock turbo and on just 24 psi on the old old 252 turbo kit I out trapped the k04 by 7mph only making about 400 whp at that time.
