Testing AEM's New Intake for SS/TC

For those who did not know AEM has revised their intake design slightly. They put a venturi (smaller piece of aluminum pipe welded in) right at the MAF to speed up and clean up the airflow over the MAF Sensor. The results so far are very promising according to my logs. The fuel trims are just as good if not slightly better than the stock airbox down to the filter. Better than any intake I have ever logged. Throttle response is very good compared to the stock airbox and topend is a ton better than the stock airbox.

The huge silicone elbow remains but I have not encountered any surge yet because so far I have found a way to tune out all of the cold start surge. It has worked out great on my car so far. It seems, other than the cat heating idle cam changes, no tuning is required to keep the fuel trims in check. The LTFT was 0.0 to -0.8 on my car and the Total fuel trims are -4 to +2.

So your saying with your current tune for the stock airbox is almost dead on for tuning of the new AEM, which means AEM might have gotten the prize. Now if Vararam/CP-E can complete.

Interesting.

Wow...that's pretty sweet.

Are you using a dryflow filter or a k&n/any other oiled filter?

It is about as close as it gets. I am going to retune the MAF tables slightly but for the first time it seems I have an intake on my car that does not really require extensive MAF tuning.

It is the only intake that causes the surging so in a sense it is the intake LOL. I went a different way with the cat heating idle tables before. I made them exactly the same as the warm idle tables which is not quite the solution.

Same dryflow filter. When I used the K&N on the old design the airflow got so turbulant over the MAF sensor the Fuel trims were of by up to 25%.

Are you changing just the idle cat heating tables?? I changed the main and the idle for cat heating and the car is VERY tame on startup now!! I also adjusted the main cold tables slightly and I really like the results now

I can send to you if you want to compare?

Just the idle cat heating intake and exhaust cam tables and the intake cam main idle cold table. I made a big change to them especially the exhaust side. I did not touch the main cat heating tables because the last time I did I saw no improvements changing them closer than the main warm tables before so I put them back.

If you want I will send you back my changes Nick. They might accomplish the same thing. I just have to do a little quick math to see.

Definately looks different than my approach. I do have a few areas with bigger changes at idle. I worry about the valves when it comes to cam phasing so it makes me a little nervous to change anything other than the idle.
