I have cam settings to tune out the surge on cold starts. The fuel trims are just as good as the stock airbox with the stock filter.

My replacement just showed up today. After looking at the new tube, AEM just welded in a "sleeve" with no fins or dividers of any sort. I'm gonna give it a go some time this week and see what the LTFT's look like. If the LTFT stay solid like Term has seen then I'll have Hahn CAI for sale lol.

Thats what I was afraid of. Even though I seem to like the AEM better, this car is my daily driver and I dont want to be sucking water every time it rains. I think thats going to sway my decision towards the K&N.

It is in the pipe and it is almost impossible to see in pics. They welded a slightly smaller diameter pipe inside the 3.25" pipe.

The fuel trims are close to what you would see with the stock airbox. You will still have surge issues on cold starts though unless you change the cat heating idle tables.

Just a thought. AEM claims the surging on start up comes from the fact that their intake delivers too much air to the turbo with the stock cat heating tables. If other intakes do not do have this symptom can we assume the AEM flow more air than other intakes?

Flow rate is the same as the Hahn according to my logs. The reason for the surging has to do with resonant vibrations in the silicone elbow disturbing airflow into the turbo. That is why even when the elbow is attached to the stock airbox some surging is observed as well. So it is like a light switch on/off on/off etc. Cat heating loads the crap out of the motor at idle in order to heat the cats faster to help with cold start emissions. Low rpms and heavy loads mean airflow needs to be smooth through the system (into the turbo) in order to prevent surge.

Ohh, interesting, I am not too concerned Term cause I never drive the car untill the cat warm up cycle is completed, every time i just get in and run the car hates me!

I have cam setting that will get rid of the cold start surge because even if you do not drive your car until it comes out of cat warm up mode it still surges which is bad for the turbo.

It is wicked hot right now but atleast it is not humid here the car does not seem to be doing too bad for its first real summer.
