Good deal Treadstone. Maybe you should make a new thread about this group buy to speed things up and let everyone know. I wanna get this thing ASAP, cause im getting tuned first week in March.

Just looked on the treadstone website. Is there a reason your not offering the TR11 IC in this deal? Is it too big for the cobalt? I noticed its the same cost as the TR8 and TR8L.

Im not interested in the TR11 but Im sure Rissa would be if she plans to go big turbo since it is the same cost.

I think I would go TR8L.

Oh and Rissa
The website says the TR8L is good for 575hp. I doubt you will make higher than that anyways

The TR11 has endtanks that are slightly higher of the bottom of the intercooler which would cause it to hang lower than the TR8

the next size up is the TR10, and then the TR12, both of these intercoolers will work, and have the same mounting location as the TR8, we just need to add reducers to adapt to 3" inlets on these intercoolers

BAM! there you go Rissa. A decent intercooler at a decent price. Its $280 instead of $250.
TR10 Intercooler- TREADSTONE PERFORMANCE

Whats the turn around time should we hit 10 people? Meaning, how long would it take to make em and ship em?

also interested in treadstone logo on IC, lol.

The new $290 TR1035 (10" high, 3.5" deep like the TR10, same 22" core length) has mounting ears cast into the end tank like the TR8. I want to try. Moar is betta!

TR8 616 cu. in.
TR10 808 cu. in.
TR12 962 cu. in.

All three intercoolers will work with this set up.

The TR8 main improvement over stock, is that it is 3.5" thick by 8" tall, and able to support more airflow through the core with this greater surface area. By just bolting this on with no adjustments to tuning, your boost pressure will increase thus netting in an approx gain of 15-20hp. The stocker is also nearly 30" long, and this excessive length increases pressure drop across the core. 90% of the cooling is done withing the first 8" of core length, the rest is just restriction. Thats why you see many high horsepower cars running vertical flow intercoolers that are only 6" to 9" tall.

Another benefit of the greater capacity is the intercoolers ability to store thermal energy, and our highly dense internal fin structure serves just that purpose, to scrub of hot air and bring the boosted air down to ambient temps.

Many copies and replicas of our TR8 intercooler have been made of the years, we were the first with that endtank design over 8 years ago, and many companies have copied our intercooler in china and are now being sold on ebay for less than 100 bucks. But many of these companies left out our particular design features of fin density, fin count, and fin structure. We have engineered our cores to be the most efficient in many different applications.

I second this.

Also was this install just bolt in and done? or did new holes need to be drilled for the brackets to mount?

The way I read the first post, it sounds like they will provide brackets 90 degree elbows and couplers. Im assuming they are providing brackets so that they mount to factory bracket locations.

If they arent, then this isnt as awesome of a deal as I originally thought, lol.

My TR8 install was "bolt in and done." I think I posted the details somewhere in this thread. Ryan also posted details (in his Treadstone Stage 3 thread).

It would make no sense to use the factory bracket locations, as they were chosen as a place to hang the small factory IC underneath the crash bar. The massive Treadstone goes behind the crash bar and uses other factory bolt holes that are more appropriate for mounting a large IC high.

The factory brackets suck. They are 2 steel pieces that slide into the front of the crash bar, then 2 more L shaped pieces that bolt to the first 2 pieces. They are rubber mounted, as any IC should be that hangs low enough to bounce off the road like my stocker did twice (although they don't keep the plastic from cracking), and whatever weight GM saved by making the end tanks out of plastic instead of casting them out of aluminum as they should have, it feels like they wasted twice that in these 4 bracket pieces. I'm not saying the factory brackets are totally useless. I kept them in case I don't find a better way to mount my new horns.

The Treadstone aluminum flat bar brackets are sandwiched behind the crash bar. PLEASE look through this thread for (1) the pic of the bracket attached to the IC out of the car, and (2) the overhead pic of the sandwiched bracket with the IC in the car.

Same price, according to the web page that shows the differences between the 2 ICs, but different core size. Actually there seem to be many more differences. It's designed to flow more but at lower boost levels. It might mount differently. I haven't seen one.

Ones polished ones isn't.. The end tanks and core you can tell aren't even remotely the same. Not the size the fins..

That Crazy Steve core is just disgusting..

One thing I thought on the CS intercooler is that the welds were actually doubled up on , and for a Chinese IC that was amazing work. It looked like it was done autonomously.. Just too bad it doesn't flow well and the elbows suck ... Look at the welds on that Tread stone ... You guys need a new welder... sorry

Purchased IC kit. I will be attending the BYT meet if anyones interested to see this thing in person and possibly come to their senses about this great deal, lol.

Im not sure if Im going to install it there at the meet or at home.

Im definately installing it at home and checking out how the fitment works. if its not complicated then I will be making two dyno sessions at the BYT meet. to show the difference between stock IC and this IC.

Would be great if you could install it there at the meet. I'm sure it would be a lot easier that way and we get to see the comparison to stock

Yeah, but I message Nick, Im thinking that day is already booked and I only have 1 dyno session for sure, lol. I might install it there but I never installed an IC before and I dont know how complicated it is. I figure If I can do it at home and the fitment is good then I will do it at the meet.

Also it will give me practice so I know what to unbolt and in what order.

dthomp, Im gonna get the IC, Im gonna install it and do a how to to install it. I will then record my IATs from stock and from this IC. I present all this in a new thread that I plan to make since there really isnt a group buy thread on this forum for this yet. Stay tuned!

IC should be here in a few days and hopefully the weather is good enough to do the install. lol.
