No I don't think "better" is the right word. I believe they would show equivalent temp changes and both would be less likely to blow an end tank. They will work the same.

Did you run the stocker on a 23 psi tune before swapping?

Nope. The sticker was at stock boost. I was suppose to have a combo tune by now so I could switch to stock but things didn't work out that way at the byt meet. I will get a combo tune as soon as I mail nick my ecu.

I know there are some strong factors here that could prevent a good comparison but this at least shows the ic works as well as stock under higher boost loads.

Yea, from my personal experience the stocker heats up more when you start pushing the 23-24lbs boost tunes. When I ran the TR8 I noticed alot more consistency in the temps. Course humidity and ambient temps play a large roll in that as well.

We really appreciate your efforts here...very nice presentation and an unbiased one to boot. I never thought this unit would make much of a difference due to its elevated location behind the crash bar. As you point out, it does seem to address the plastic end tank *problem* ...although your stock end tanks looked pretty damn good .
In my opinion, they only *blow up* under higher boost levels ( holding 23 plus) or when actually hit ( and lowered beyond Pedders). I think those with aftermarket charge piping AND elevated boost over 23 are particularly vulnerable to stock IC failure.
Great job so far!

Hey ronn,

I agree with you as the cobalts tuned to 23psi Re most vulnerable, however some members on here have had the endtanks blow under partial boost 5-7psi when gently accelerating on the highway... not sure if something collided with the stock endtank or not but I believe that is what happened to wantedss/tc's car. Thanks for the kudos

also have to take into consideration pressure drop difference, if the factory want controlling boost, you probably would see a slight increase in boost pressure, because the factory intercooler is more restrictive.

it seems the end tank design on the tr8 is better for flow than mpx's i/c, or zzp's or even hahns. theres no erractic angles for it to follow.

just an observation i saw.
