Most people are going to say ~13 seems to be the best spot.

He's keeping the cars on the rich side of the curve for safety reasons. The DI motors can be run much leaner than most people are used to, but it's wierd for a tuner to tune a boosted car to nearly 13:1 A/F and expect it to last.

My A/F is a little leaner than your's with my Trifecta tune. But it still isn't near 13:1. I'm ok with mine where it is for now. It might cost you a couple HP, but it's safer in the long run.

Don't mind the black smoke!

If you aren't having problems with it the way it is, don't worry about it.

See, I'm still uneasy about this. Our cars aren't diesel. If it's just a puff after a gear change okay but a constant purge of black smoke can't be good or normal.

Redsport, how much is, "a lot"? Have you checked your plugs?

There will always be extra fuel if the car is under throttle. Almost every stock car will have some amount of black smoke coming from the exhaust if you are wide open, the computer commands more fuel than it can burn to keep cyl tems in check and produce more power. The excess has to go somewhere.

Not on a DI motor.
As rich as Vince runs them is NOT safe, at least in my opinion.

Yes, I understand what you're saying but you still wouldn't see or notice black smoke unless there was something wrong. At least not like what i assume the OP is referring to...

Not like a trail of smoke behind the car or anything, but if someone was behind him and said hey there's black smoke coming out the exhaust, then yeah that's gonna be normal.

Same here 12.5-12.7 Right where it should be. So sick of hearing the bashing by a choice few know it alls. When we are only hearing one side of the story. Most likely other things we are not hearing I am sure.

Vince will not post on here or HPT because there's a few of us "know it alls" that would eat him alive with what we know about tuning over what he knows. Ever wonder why these top "tuners" don't post in depth ideas and theories about tuning? Because it would show how much they don't really understand about the basics of engine operation. I was "tuning" motors long before Vince was born, and I HAVE "tuned" thousands of cars, trucks, boats, motorhomes, dirtbikes, streetbikes, Trans Am cars, Indy cars, tractors, nitro RC helicopters, go karts, etc. Hell I even re-jetted the generator I had in my motorhome because it wouldn't run my A/C once we got over about 5k feet altitude. Leaned out the carb and that A/C was blowin' cold all weekend!

If I needed someone to write some software or fix my computer, maybe he'd be the man. He is NOT a tech, and therefore, is NOT an experienced "tuner" that really understands what we're changing in these tunes. He's a software guy that has unlocked some tuning abilities in some computers. He keeps his tunes secret not to protect his ideas, but to keep guys like me from finding out how much he doesn't know. What he's doing in his tunes is not the sum of years of experience, it's what he's picked up from researching and reading about it. How many hoods do you think he's been under or actually put a wrench to? I'm betting I worked on more cars by the time I was able to drive than he has in his whole life. I ran my own shop for years before walking into a dealership as a Journeyman at 21. Be careful who you judge as an "asshat" or "know it all doing it himself", you never know who's on the other side of that screen. I could teach Vince a HELLUVA lot more than he could teach me, I'll bet all the cars I own on that one.

Sorry Vince, I've never met you and have no beef with you personally, I just get tired of people blindly following someone, anyone. You've done a huge amount for this community, but I'm sure you'd admit some of these guys have built you up even more than you yourself know your abilities are.

Shakin my head.... Alot of us tuners have alot better background lol.... In the automotive/ tuning field then vince lol...vince is by far not the best tuner out there for any engine...... But he is ok..... People who buy hptuners or get tu.ed.by someone with hptuners are smarter then someone who went with trifecta unless there is no tuner near u and ect. Reason. ... To many to list.
