Where is the GM stage kit?
if you swap ECU's GM is not going to find out as long as you swap it back before taking it to the dealer, they check the calibration and as long as nothing comes up unknown youll be fine, plus the ECU inder OBD 2 recordes as little as 30 seconds but i know for a fact that on toyota they are 30 minutes of engine paramaters, but the dealer does not have access to this information, only the police departments for crash reconstruction, its a part of the mandates for OBD2 and is required to be complied with by the car manufactuer
If thats true, why did the Chrysler SRT4 document I posted a few back SPECIFICALLY tell Chrysler technicians to check things between the ECM and BCM? Either they were flaunting privacy law as you seem to state (please post a link to any laws on books), or they were just using due dillagence to protect themselves from warranty claims.
Its also a pretty well known FACT that OnStar is not as passive as you might think. Thus why I disabled it in my car.
Look.. fine, we get it... you're swapping ECU's and its working out for you. I, for one, don't have any "buddys" in a GM dealer, so I and other choose to play by the rules.

You guys, that's great. You got away with it once. How about a thousand times. Or however many Cobalts are out there. Are they all going to be as lucky as you?
I don't know how many times I have to give the reference for this info. 09 owners manual. Chapter 7, page 17.Yes smart ass I know how to read a manual. All kinds of manuals.
I'll write it out for thiose that can read and digest information.
This vehicle has an Event Data Recorder (EDR). The main purpose of an EDR is to record, in certain crash or near crash-like situations, such as an airbag deployment or hitting a road obstacle, data that will assist in understanding how a vehicles systems performed. The EDR is designed to record data related to vehicle dynamics and safety systems for a short period of time, typically 30 seconds or less. The EDR in this vehicle is designed to record such data as;
1. How various systems in your vehicle were operating
2. Whether or not the driver and passenger safety belts were buckled/fastened
3. How far, if at all, the driver was pressing the accelerator and/or brake pedal
4. How fast the vehicle was traveling
This data can help provide a better understanding of the circumstances in which crashes and injuries occur.
IMPORTANT: EDR data is recorded by your vehicle data if a non-trivial crash situation occurs; no data is recorded by the EDRunder normal driving conditions and no personal data (e.g., name, gender, age, and crash location) is recorded. However, other parties such as law enforcement, could combine the EDR data with the type of personally identifying data routinely acquired during a crash investigation.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Everybody can take any, all or none of this information seriously. I really don't give a rats ass. I'll take the horsepower and the torque the Turbo Upgrade gives me and be happ in the knowledge I am still covered by a 5 year 100,00 mile warranty.
Thank you all for your patience and Happy trails.

They have a redundancy for mileage. Youre PCM, BCM whatever you want to call it tracks it and your ECU does.
This is done for one simple reason, if one breaks the other still has the mileage and can be used to program the other.
So yes the dealer WOULD be able to check the mileage difference.
Now either they ignore it or they wonder why you have an ECU that doesnt match your vehicle mileage and they have no record of a warrantied ECU replacement.
They wouldnt look at this if you came in for something small, but you bet your ass, they are looking for any excuse they can if something big breaks. And that isnt up to your dealer. That comes from GM when your dealer looks for authorization to do the warranty repair.

Watching the pissing match that's been going on here is getting me close to the point of leaving these forums. The level of immaturity that's been going rampant here is ridiculous.
To all the folks who think we're stupid for waiting for the upgrade.... Why even post here. Go elsewhere and start a 'aren't they stupid' thread.
The rest of us can continue to post our hopes, thoughts and anticipations about something we're INTERESTED in...
If in the end this kit doesn't come out? I'll be plenty happy w/what the car came with originally. It's a gem of a car and I continue to enjoy it day after day.

Well I had posted a question on the Tunersource site a few days ago requesting a slightly more specific timeframe for release and an explanation of the delay. No response yet.

Listen smartass, the guy I posted to already has done it and all was asking for is info on how HE did it.
The searching you mention brought me here. Lowering srpings, warranty etc...
As far as I'm concerned THIS is about the best place on the net for into about the cobalts.
That's why I'm soliciting for info HERE.
People with nothing informative to say like you just bring a good forum like this down.

look in the trunk and lift up the carpet that is over the spare tire. Underneath that there is a build sticker and look for the code G85 i believe. Gosh dammit I can't remember if that is the code or not. Having a brain fart. Need a verification
