I am averaging 27.4 MPG. Thats staying below 3000 RPMS most the time, and I have an intake. Which netted me exactly 1 MPG.

Just dont make it a habit to lay into it every time you get 100 feet of road to do so and you will be fine!

Z24 - I had a 96' Z24 but with a 2.4L. Your's is a Ectoec 2.2 right now which is more fuel efficient than the 2.4L ever was. Just keep one thing in mind - although the gas mileage on the SS/SC is similar to that of the Z24 yyou drive now, you're going to be spending on average $5.00 more per tank because of the Premium gas required. And trust me - once you feel boost under your foot, you're gonna have a helluva time trying not stomp on it all the time - remember speed is addictive!!!

I didn't even catch that. You're right...they stopped the Z24 after 2002, and only offered the 2.2 until the Cobalt arrived. If you have an 04, you may have a sport appearance package, but you're still packing a 2.2l. Your milage in the Cobalt will be slightly worse than that.

I had a sunfire (mechanically identical to cavs) before my cobalt it had a 56L tank. Cobalts have a 49L tank.

I can get 370 miles out of a tank and I got 42mpg on time on the freeway. ( I had the spare on and didnt go over 55mph for 145miles)
I get about 30mpg most of the time and can get 33-36 depending on where Im driving and how fast im going.

The SRT4 is nice but its not loaded up like the cobalt is and the GTI is going to be used and most like it was beat on.

Up to you man.
