Arrow Advice Needed!!!

Hey guys,

I haven't been on here in a while, been really busy, but I have a dilemma I need some advice on. To keep it easy, I have a long and a short version for those of you who would rather not read a lot, and for others that would like to know the whole story.

Short Version

I have an 06 SS, turbo swapped, with 55k miles, I'm the second owner, bought her stock with 14k miles, garage kept. I'm getting bored of the balt, and I really want a V8, more specifically a gto or g8.

Keep the balt and keep on modding her, or sell/trade and pick up a v8?

Long Version

Thank you to those willing to read this version haha, so here it goes...

Here is the link to my build thread, sorry it hasn't been updated in a while, I will do that this weekend.

***Let me know if link doesn't work, I'm on my iPad so I honestly have no idea if I'm doing it right.

https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/2-0l...roject-282446/

For the most part, I love this car. I've never really had any problems with her, the ONLY problem I've had was in 2011 when there was a hole in the cat, and it was replaced under warranty at the dealer. I bought her in 2010 with 14k miles on her, could not have been cleaner. 2006 with the G85 package, only modification was a dealer installed GMS2. I have the title for this car, it is paid off, which is a big reason for keeping it. She now sits, still garage kept, at 55k miles, with the turbo kit installed only 5k miles ago.

I want to get rid of her because honestly, I'm getting a little bored. I really want a V8, and I have for a while now. Although, Im not sure if this recent obsession is a phase or not. A few other reasons I want to get rid of her is partially because I'm not as comfortable driving her as I feel I should be, every time I do a pull I get excited/nervous. The nervousness comes from thinking I might break something. I know this may be stupid, and just in my head, and also breaking things comes with the territory of highly modified cars, but I dont like the uncomfortable driving experience I get every so often. This could be due to the amount of work I had to go through to get her running right after the installation. The original bov (ZZP) was causing a lot of compressor surge which wasn't fun.. It is basically fixed now after swapping it out for the Tial. Also, it took a LONG time to get the tune right, thanks to John (Gremlin85) for all his hard work. Although every so often it acts a little funny, but again, could just be in my head.

So all in all, I do love this car, and I would hate to get rid of it after putting so much time and money into her. And no, I will not part it out if I do sell. I'm just wondering if it is time to move on.

Here comes the dilemma.... I have about 4-6 grand to toss around on my car this summer...

What do I do? I have two options in mind...

Option 1)

I keep the balt, and fix everything that needs fixing (really more just things I want to change, or little pet peeves about the car) and build her up more. Since I live in MA, I was honestly debating on taking a road trip to Michigan to visit ZZP. Once there/before I go, I want to get the ZZP ported head with valve springs/titanium retainers, Stage 4 clutch, koni struts, YYZ v3 springs, hardcore sway bar, new brakes, finally install all my new gauges (A/F ratio, interceptor, new boost up to 30psi), finally install my damn tjin trunk (procrastination nation), fix my dash (it's cf wrapped and I ******* hate it, terrible idea), ottp billet catch can (track requires it around here), a few other cosmetic modifications that peak my interest, along with a badass ZZP Dyno Tune to really pull it all together. Having all of their parts and their tune would make me feel a lot more confident knowing everything was done right by the best people for the job. However, this will cost quite a bit of money, and if I hate it Im SOL.

Option 2)

Sell/Trade this bitch and put the money towards a nice V8, American made only, preferably a GTO or G8. BUT the G8 only comes manual in the GXP which people are asking damn near 40k for, and if I had the cash it'd be mine, but I'd probably have to settle for a G8 GT, and while sexy, those are auto which i pretty lame... Either of these will be garage kept like the balt, and taken care of to the best of my ability. I'd like that rumble.

So there you have it, I could keep the balt and make a comfortable safe ~450whp, or trade up and get a V8. But I know my car inside and out, and have had it for so long and put so much time and money into it... Do I really want to part ways?

Thanks for reading!!! Feel free to ask questions! Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you see yourself hitting the streets a-runnin in a Cobalt? Or a GTO?

Bye the way, Roadcone Tuning on here traded his 'balt for a GXP. Nice ride...

I can find a few, but closest is about 6-8 hours from me... I may troll the forums to see what they have around, thing is I'd be in another car payment and they all want about 40k.

They are wicked nice. I like gto's A LOT. However, I could see myself in the balt after a few more upgrades...

Everything about them is nicer, interior is like a dream, four doors, 6.0... haha. I can pick up a nice GT for cheap. I really want a GXP, just not sure if I'm willing to throw down another 20k or so, but I really dont want an automatic.

What did you go with?

I think a V8 rear wheel drive car gives you more of a solid foundation to make some serious power reliably. My car isn't even close to as modded as yours is but every time I take it to the track I feel like something is going to break. I can see where you'd want to keep it where you've got so much time and money in it but I think a V8 is a better choice in the long run. I would be driving a V8 if I didn't have the commute I have, fuel would kill me. I also think American is the way to go.

Skip those, go straight for a Corvette. You won't look back.

I agree if you upgrade jump to the corvette or a mustang 5.0.

If you'd rather stay away from a car payment though and have a faster car than the GT (from anything except from a dig) keep on modding the cobalt, you can hit huge numbers like syche snake for cheaper than it would cost to fully upgrade to a 40k car.
