dude when I pulley the original one out of my head it fell apart in my hand, I looked like steve carrell in 40-year-old virgin when he is at the free clinic and picks up that plastic vagina

the lash adjusters look a little different, its the roller rockers that look beefy, they incorperate a closed roller design

At work so I don't have time to read the whole thread...but I occasionally get a rattle noise that somehwat resembles blower chatter and found it to be coming more from the back side of the engine...same issue possibly? Mines an 07 and I've been told what was stated in the OP...I shouldn't have a timing chain issue since I'm supposed to have a revised version.

part number? I'm looking on gmpartsdirect right now, and it just has the lifters(lash adjusters) and rocker arms listed as normal. There isn't anything that says revised.

Wanna pay for it? I'll gladly build motors mail-order.

I want one for myself though. I had fun hurting feelings in a Cobalt for a long time, and that was working against parts that didn't exist and info that wasn't there. With the resources that are out there now... my car would have been incredibly nasty.

I very seriously considered it. Espscially in the 'vert, it would be lulz.

When I had the black '98 shell here, it was calling me. I still had the LSJ trans and all that **** here too.

I did some numbers though, and it would honestly be cheaper to get a plain-jane '05 base balt, and put an LSJ drivetrain in it. Too much stuff needed to be swapped to make the LSJ stuff work in a cavi, and you can find a base cobalt for dirt cheap.

its very easy to replace, but like blazin said, its best if you remove the valve cover to make sure that the tensioner is seated correctly

This doesn't seem to be the case in my 2007. I had a random rattling noise at idle from time to time. Sounded just like heavy valvetrain noise. Since it was random I chalked it up to the timing chain tensioner.

I also had a little leak from the valve cover gasket right under the intake cam so I decided to buy a new valve cover gasket kit and a new timing chain tensioner from Crate Engine Depot. Corvettespirit, Dr.Balt407 and I made a little discovery as to why you should get the new style chain tensioner. Anyway here is the carnage from an old style 2 piece tensioner.

Yes, that is in 5 pieces and a little clip it has is missing. I also dropped the pan that day and found bits of that clip in the oil pan. If you are having random noise at idle that sounds like valvetrain noise and it comes and goes, this very well could be your issue. Much bigger issues could have came from this and I am glad I changed it.

You can find the part at Crate Engine Depot for like $40 plus shipping: http://www.crateenginedepot.com/stor...P2216C133.aspx.

Hope this helps some of you!
Oh man, thank you for posting this. Me and a buddy have both been wondering what that noise is. Both of ours have intermittent "knocking", usually after a hard pull.I will have to get this dealt with ASAP. Again, thanks for posting.

My 07' had the old tensioner also. I replaced it a couple weeks ago. It's really a wash as to the cutoff point of the new tensioner. If you are hearing the noise, it's a pretty cheap fix for the piece of mind...

If you give them the right part number it will be the updated one. Or order from crate engine depot or any of the other GM parts websites.
