I am not too knowledgable about the engine workings of cars so i thought id ask- I was wondering if you could get a SS/SC with an automatic transmition.

I think you can get a 2.4L SS in an auto

An SMG is a lot different then the pos automatics the big 3 use.

Wow I didn't know that a flapper paddle transmission is going to make your car as fast as a Ferrari. Let me the first to say I'm going to build a flapping 4t65 for the SS then! Look out Enzo, flapping Cobalt is comin' for ya!
And flappers belong in the 40's
I got a auto base cobalt... well because the manual they had at the dealer was "YELLOW" .. but that's not the point. the point is that i don't car if my cars a auto, manual , tiptronic, smg, i really don't care. if i bought and like it then so what. what people think. And i defintley for sure know there are some auto's that can beat manuals anyday.

And some manual's can beat auto's. You like your auto? Good. We like our manual tranny's.

I think you should be able to get an automatic in whatever engine. Just offer the option. If you don't like an auto---just get the 5 speed. And BTW---I love manuals but love CHOICE even more.
Great, its the old auto vs. manual argument again. So what if GM did offer the SS/SC with an auto as an option? You don't have to buy it that way. I can tell you if they did, I would have bought it.

Automatics with manual control are hardly more than a gimmick. They may be more entertaining to drive than a regular auto, but they offer no performance gain in any respect. All "manu-matics" consist of is a standard automatic with some added software to allow the driver to tell the trans when to upshift and downshift, and half the time it overrides your selection anyway.
True Sequential Manuals, like those on a Ferrari, are not "automatics" by any means. They have real gearboxes and a real clutch, and both are operated by servos controlled by the PCM. Shift times are so quick because the computer can operate the clutch and change gears almost instantaneously, much faster than any human can. Some have an "auto" mode, but all it really does is allow for the computer to decide when to change gears instead of the driver.
As for the SS S/C having an automatic, that would be a complete waste of a vehicle. A performance oriented vehicle such as the SS S/C should only come in manual, its just the nature of the car. It would be pointless for GM to waste R&D money on fitting the car with an auto, only to end up with a slower, more expensive, less fuel efficient, heavier, and overall just worse car in general.
