I don't need a fact to support my opinion.. You can say my arugement is lame all you want. The fact is GM doesn't offer it in auto and your the one whining about how they should. Your stance is no suprise though you already drive GTP.

Exactly. People on here would still buy an SS S/C and sales would go up if an auto was offered. Unfortunately we'll never change anyones mind.

No, Mr. newbie who joined 5 days ago, you haven't won anything. Everything I've stated is based on facts, therefore you can't agrue against them, unless you can prove them wrong.

You are so off the mark its hardly work argueing with you. If GM programmed the auto shift shift very quickly (hard and jerky) the car would get poor reviews and press due to the harshness and kickback in the driveline. If they make it like a normal car, i.e. comfortable to drive, it can't shift nearly as fast, which ruins performance.

And yes, I'm telling you straight up that a manual transmission sounds a hell of a lot better than an automatic. With an auto and a loud exhaust, you can hear the drone of every shift as the car goes to the nest gear - and frankly, it sounds like garbage.

Then you suggest the automatic from your GTP?? Do you have any idea how heavy a transmission like that is?? Not only would it add significant weight to the car, but it would upset the handling balance with the extra weight over the front wheels. As it is now, the car is almost a perfect 50/50, by adding weight up front like that it would offset the balance.

Then you claim the majority of people are going to race their car in a straight line. Thats probably true, and just another reason why the car only comes equipped with a manual. Do you have any idea (even a clue?) how much the 0-60, 1/4 mile ET, and trap speeds would be negatively effected if the car came with an auto?? The 1/4 mile time would be a low 15, the trap speed would be reduced by about 5MPH, and the 0-60 time would most likely be almost a full second slower. People will read those numbers in the mags, and automatically assume the car is only capable of those numbers. Hence the reputation is by the crappy automatic, and enthusiasts such as myself are turned off by the crappy numbers.

Then you ask why the F-bodys and Corvette are available with automatics?? I already explained it, they are for buyers who aren't interested in performance and care more about just cuising in comfort without shifting. They also cost 15K-30K more than then the SS S/C, which allows GM to offer an automatic as a secondary option without affecting the price nearly as much.

Facts the facts here buddy: Stock for stock, 99% of the time the manual version of a specific car will outperform the automatic version in every category, bar none. Nobody cares about how "consistant" they are or any of that crap, bottom line is nobody here is a professional drag racer, and we care more about performance, fun, and value than anything else. If you still argue that, then you really don't have a clue.

Corvette and F-body owners who want an automatic ARE interested in performance. They just don't want a manual. If they were interested in crusiing, they would buy a V6!

 

the whole point of me posting this in the first place was to see if it was possible to even put a auto transmission in a stock manual. I never wanted it to get outta hand like this lol

 

Its not a cop-out, its me giving up on trying to explain to this moron that hes wrong. I told him to explain to me why I was wrong with what I said, but instead he just comes back with HIS reasons why an automatic is bad, and his reasons are wrong. So instead of trying to make a rebuttal using stated facts like I did, he just uses his opinion, which in this case wont cut it. So Im done. I know Im right and I know hes wrong, and it seems as though theres atleast a few other people here who know Im right as well.

wolfwood, it didnt get out of hand. I tried using fact to state why an automatic isnt as bad as some people think it is, and some people just cant stand the fact that theyre wrong. You can either take my information and learn from it, or you can ignore it and listen to what someone uneducated such as wesman has to say and never know the facts, and I hope you do the former. All you keep saying is "my reasons are wrong". Obviously you have nothing to go on. The reasons I listed are proven facts, ask anyone on here who actually knows what they are talking about. None of that was my opinion, all can be backed up with data.

Why don't you prove why my reasons are wrong, with cold hard facts. Until then, which will never happen, you've been owned and probably shouldn't both posting again in this thread. Unless of course you just want to make yourself look worse, which may not be possible anyway.

Oh yeah, and I have a friend that bought an automatic LS1 Camaro. He doesnt care about performance though, even though hes dropped a few grand into it and made it a low 12 second car. Yeah, DEFINETELY doesnt care about performance, nor do any of the other guys over on LS1Tech

And do you know what?? Nobody here cares about your "friends automatic LS1 Camaro". What are you trying to prove?? That an automatic can get into the 12's?? No **** it can, but you could do the same thing with a 6-speed, and run a faster time and trap at a higher speed while your at it. Use some common sense (which you obviously lack), the extra 2 gear ratios are going to offset the "consistancy" of the automatic

Dang, this is my first post here, let me try to make it a doosy(sp?). Sir, your idiocy on this subject of manual transmissions versus automatic transmissions is simply awe-inspiring. The fastest LS1 F-body in the world is guess what... an automatic. I am still trying to figure out the whole manual sounds better argument, come on seriously that was just a joke right??? This is a very simple argument, when it comes to straight line performence an automatic is greater then a manual. Now some cars you are completely correct about the manual being the top performer, just because there isn't a capable auto to put in it's place, that is IT. All of your other arguments had zero to do with drag racing, so are moot.
