yeah i see good and bad things with bates. i spoke with ray bates today over phone and he says he has done alot of people on the forums as well as the race cars.

bates had a good price for sleeves installed but then all the extra stuff he adds on makess it the same as darton. trying to figure out which way i want to go.

I didn't have Darton put them in actually, so Im not much help anymore, lol. I had a friend in a machine shop at the time, so him and I did the work. I can definitely say that you should probably have Darton do it, not just any machine shop.

if you have darton do the work send a new set of pistons with your block so they set the piston to cylnder wall clearance and they will also deck the block

bates sleeves wasnt the issue, it was the specifications he was giving the machine shops. Per his directions he was having the sleeves installed above deck height, thats why so many people had issues it isnt the sleeves themselves

it would have had to been a copper crush gasket then like on high boost applications. And to my knowledge the few people that had issues never recieved no special gasket from him

This^ They hooked me up with mine... Good people.

And either have Darton do it or a repuatable engine builder.. I went to RWR here in phoenix because they are known for their race engines and have a lot of Drag race engines they do.

Not all shops can do it, they need a special tool to get the sleeves in or align them... I cant remember exactly.

high enough that with an oem gasket, usually the intake side of the head wont seal right if tightened in the correct sequence order. And then leads to sludge build up under the valve cover on the intake side, contamination and eventually bearing failure

well when you replace the stock sleeves with new stock sleeves they stick up and require the block to be milled and again it comes back to people not going back and double checking the work they had done and bates can get you a custom cometic hg for a raised sleeve setup

I've got two years and about 25 track days on my Bates built motor. No complaints here.

Your results may vary, past performance does not indicate future performance. etc etc etc...

My friend Chris (Venom713 in here) got screwed over by BATES. I would PM him so he can explain all the **** that was wrong with it..... and money spent trying to get it fixed. When he talked to Bates they didn't offer to do anything to make it right . I'll send him a link to this thread .
