I would have purchased an OTT endplate, but they were out of stock so I had to get one from ItalianJoe.

Not only that but there might be something good that comes from this. Like "oh hey we can produce a single pass for XXX instead of 400 dolllars so this is how you do it!". Flatgod makes a single pass setup and gets praised for it. I say that I am going to ATTEMPT to do the same and get bashed for it, sweet!

If he is trying to save me a headache he should have been calm and level headed like I still am instead of name calling/bashing. I have an opportunity/way to get stock end plates practically free, so making them into dual passes and selling them for "anything over 30 bucks" would make me a profit. So either way I would be making a decent chunk of change on that. If I can't beat out the vendors then so be it and if I am the one that brings the vendors pricing down on the dual passes then I will be happy and so should others!
As far as the headache on the single pass, it's really not that difficult from the looks of it and I don't see why people are bashing me for wanting to try something new. It's my car, it's my money why not go for it? I think there should be more people who should try to make there own parts and save money rather then "wasting" it at a vendor personally.
And this is the reason that markets lose vendors. When the market becomes more and more unprofitable they will devot there money to other markets instead. In the end you will hurt yourselves trying to undercut the vendors.

This is 100% true. You don't understand the value of having quality vendors offering quality products that will back them up and support them. It's not worth losing that to save a few dollars (unless you're in a pinch and need something that all of the vendors are out of, like my case).

Couple points.
Vendors have enormous costs in doing business that has to be spread around. It costs $600 to sponsor here. How many end plates do you have to sell to make that back? How about monthly web site fees? your hosting, upgrading, answering customer service emails. This product is done on a core basis. How much does it cost when a core comes in bad and you have to scrap it?

As said above, trying to duplicate what vendors are doing for less money may save you a few bucks but in the long run it makes the other parts you buy from us more expensive and delays cool **** you're always bitching that it takes us so long to do. We have limited budgets as well.

The next thing is going to be a really hard concept for many to grasp because it's something that ZZP does quite a bit more than others and me being the ******** I am at times rub it in. I'm going to bring up this thread again in a little while to point out that the community lost money and shot themselves in the foot with this type of post and the old bashing on ZZP. While hard to understand now, when I bring the thread back up, you'll see exactly what I was talking about. Hopefull it gets people thinking...

I ordered my intercooler pump from OTT on March 5th at 10:06 AM, it was shipped by 10:15 AM. Contact them I'm sure there's a reason.

I've experienced the same quality service from ZZP and TTR. All 3 are valuable vendors that we cannot lose due to shade tree mechanics trying to compete/undercut their prodcuts.

Sean,

UPS lost your package, you have the tracking number and know this. Unfortunately there is a process involved getting a claim paid and it does take time. Please call in if you have any other questions.

You have to lean on UPS for confirmation sometimes but as soon as you get it, you can reship the package. It's pretty standard in this biz. shouldn't take more than a few days from ship date.

You told me they found it, and i also placed another order with you guys that you said you shipped. Then i called u the next day to confirm and you said u never even had them. I heard many complaints about you guys recently. As soon as i made my post 3 people pm'd me saying they are having the same **** service. You also told me that you shipped new studs and gaskets when you found out they lost my previous order. I guess that too was a LIE. If you didnt lie about what you were doing to resolve the problems, i wouldnt be so pissed. I just needed the **** i ordered when i ordered it. Not a month later. I understand ups makes mistakes, but when you say your going to call me back with a follow up, ******* DO IT.

ha, how off topic is this thread? It went from asking about a weld in fitting to vendor bashing. Ottp and zzp both great companies, coming out with things that keep our platform alive. Keep up the good work guys.

This type of thinking will put you out of business before you ever get started. $50 per endplate is unrealistically low. If this was accurate, then you could simply sell endplates to ZZP and OTT or sell them to members for $100 to send in as cores. However, if you are set on selling these, and if you could get cores for $50, it should look something more like-

Endplate- $50
Purchasing, shipping charges, handling time- $10
Bung that you quoted- $7
Fitting- $5
Machine shop- $30(they must work cheap)
Credit card/Paypal fees- $3(on $100)
You are already looking at a $5 loss. At this point, the more you sell, the quicker you will go broke, and you haven't even considered many factors.
R&D costs?
Advertising?
Liability?
Fraud prevention?
Building payment or rent?
Wages?
Bad cores(as Zoom mentioned)

If everyone likes your endplates and you sell them for $100, you will lose thousands of dollars in a hurry and you will be forced to stop selling them.

Im all for building your own stuff and learning in the process but considering $100-200 a ripoff from a aftermarket parts vender really reinforces how much of this community is a giant tightwad.

I offered a part for free a while back on this forum if shipping was paid and I got a bunch of PM messages lowballing me on the cost of shipping. "I cant pay $10 for shipping, I'll give you $5" for a flippin free part. HOLYCRAP are you guys serious?? how to you afford your car payments?

Why we even still have venders wanting to support the cobalt community amazes me. I cant imagine anyone making money of this group.

I have never heard a bad review, comment, or post about any of the dual pass endplates that Joe has made. I agree with him though, if we keep trying to go fast and pay nothing, we will run off all of the reputable vendors and any member who has any real valuable information.

It took four pages for some one to do the math. Thanks Matt.

This thread has turned into everything that is wrong with our community as a whole. It is said a lot on the forum, but not many take it to heart......"You have to PAY to PLAY." The vendors that have stuck around are good vendors. OTT, ZZP, TTR, and many others are all great vendors. I wouldn't hesitate buying products from any of them, and I will gladly pay their prices. They have overhead such as inventory and buildings to pay for, people who answer our phone calls and questions to pay the salaries and insurance of, and research and innovations to fund. All of that costs money. Money they have to make back through the sale of the products we purchase. I am willing to pay for quality, customer service, and support. I don't have a lot of mods done to my car yet. When I purchase parts and modify my car, I will do it right the first time and with quality parts. I support our vendors. /rant

Believe what you want. It cost me about 35 bucks to make each dual pass endplate. We arent doing this for money. We are doing it to give people a cheaper option. Cobalt parts are insanely over priced. We were just doing some people favors here and it turns into this.

I've been doing it for years. You can't afford to do it for $80, i'll tell you right now. Your time is free? Mine isn't. Shipping is free? Mine isn't. As matt brought up, everything adds up. By the time you realize what you are spending, you have to sell them for $100 to break even. OTTP isn't making much at $105+shipping on the plates. I've done them for about $100/ea for a long time, recently I've had to come down a little to sell the couple I had here. Honestly, after I get stiffed on these cores (usually takes 2-3 cycles before I have to go buy more cores), I won't try again. The market is gone. I can't even sell cheap used parts, as Bolus mentioned above, people won't pay the shipping on FREE parts anymore. That's why this community is dead.

Favors given without being asked? not a favor. Favors given at the expense of slanging vendors when your pricing has been shown to be BS? Makes you look like you are...sad.

Out of all people, he is one you should respect. Yes, he's a grumpy old canadian, so he comes across as abrasive from time to time. Without him though, none of this community would be the same. Imagine what we would have to do if GM never came up with a stage kit, or dual-pass setups, or a build book. Take the time-attack cars out of the picture, and the entire LSJ aftermarket would be different.

As with a lot of people in life, you don't have to LIKE him, but you should respect him.
