I did on my car. I built a mount and put an idler pulley on it so I could use the stock belt. I guess the pulley is still there but it not a huge a/c pump.

Weight reduction, no parisitic (sp?) loss from the A/C pully

I could do that. Someone said ZZP had a full a/c delete kit. Do you guys?

why not just remove the pulley all together and get a smaller belt or would that cause a problem with the s/c?

the easiest is take the guts of the ac pump off and out leaving the front mount, the pulley and carry on. robust, last for ever and cheep NOTHING TO BUY. Lite as hell. Nothing tomake. Race proven: We have done it to Koni Cobalts since 2005....

just deleted the A/C pump on my grand am winter beater when the bearings went in it... for $90 CAN i got a bracket with a pulley that replaces it. cheaper than replacing the pump and discharging/recharging the system. dunno if they make one for a cobalt yet though. if i find out what company my mechanic ordered it from i'll post the name and you can call them and see if they make one for the balt. but it sounds like redline has your cheapest answer

hard to find a double sided belt, let alone in odd sizes

it is true, belts are hard to find and if you interfere with the sc belt wrap and you will run into slip issues....
