Cam install

Getting ready to do cams. Does the LSJ build book have the install process in it or is there another book i need. I was gona order the POWER section of the line of books but not 100% sure it will have what I need. Any help would be great. If there is also a cd-rom vs floating out there that would be even better. thanks

The LSJ Power book DOES Give prety good instructions on putting in camshafts..

Its in the section that tells you how to make a 300HP LSJ

It would probably be best though, in addition to the LSJ book, to get a Haynes and / or Chilton's or even the GM Service mannual though just to make sure you have all your bases covered. If you know what your doing the LSJ Power book is all you'll need.

Your question implies CED only sells one book. Without being more spicific its hard to tell wich book your looking at. I THINK you and I are thinking of the same book though, that being the case then YES. The OP's link goes to chapter six of this same book.

Personally, id rather have the book then a computer printout, or screen. It's up to you,
here is the book I have in mind,
Ecotec 2.0 LSJ Power Book 88958686 - Crate Engine Depot
I also have this book on my bookshelf

thanks. If I dont plan to spin the blower past lets say 7300 to 7500, are the zzp stg 2 cams to much for daily driving? Im set on the stg 1's with stock retainers and springs. Im sure theres more power when reving it out its just that doesnt fit my driving style. Im not a track guy or a all out highway type runner. I tend to just enjoy a wot full 2nd to 3rd gear pull from time to time and lookn for a lil meaner sound out of the lsj. Zzp said stg 1 would be fine just swap out the cams and gears n go, since they have done most of the hard work. Stg 2 would need springs prob to rev higher but again I will not be reving that high so if I get stg 2's is it a must to have the springs?

Stock springs are good till about 7200 RPM
After that you need springs or your valves will
float

EDIT: But if your swaping your cams it could be diffrent, if your valve close time on your cam is faster,
then you may need springs before 7200 RPM

I would consider getting stiffer valve springs to take advantage of the cams powerband and for peace of mind if you are going to be reving a bit

Who is tuning for your cams? The install is quite easy the tuning is a different story.

I was thinkn of either going to the next byt tune day or just going up there to nick one weekend. Car allready has a good set of bolt-ons. Just lookn for lil more umph, but not something that needs meth, nitrous or tvs. I have a feeling im only doing this to like the car again for my eyes have been checkn out the dealer lots . lol

Cam install is quite easy, I've done a few. Re-timing the motor is fool proof as well.

I would imagine a cam'd 2.0 would sound exactly the same as a 2.2, if it doesn't you wouldn't notice the differance on a you-tube video.

cammed.mp4 video by hnrclothing - Photobucket

This was the sound of my car when I was cammed. I was on a 2.5" full pacesetter exhaust. Its from a cell video so may not be the best sound quality.

Why would you not want to rev higher if you had springs?
