CEL from airbox mod
Um, any idea how to check what code is being thrown? I'm pretty sure I have all the fasteners on the tubing tight, did a soft reset, let it idel, and STILL have the CEL
.......HELP PLEASE
*EDIT* I have the K&N E-1009 like what modern performance sells (not from them tho) and I cut the bottom off to get access to the screw for the fastener.

there needs to be a stickey on the dam k&n filter E-1009, we have all treid it, and it throws a CEL, doesnt do much in performance or sound either, when the airbox is left on. I had it on for about a week, threw a code P0127 or somethin (the one on here everyone says). and i took it out, took to the dealer, had to replace 02 sensor, and i havent seen a CEL since.

Filter doesn't always throw a light...
It doesn't always throw a light and it does improve sound alot in my opinion simply with the airbox lid off. I have had the filter on for over 3000 miles and no light. Not sure if there is something different in what i did or not.
But before i simply took off the lid and installed the new filter i did run the filter in the closed box for a week or so. I got the filter to fit in with the lid by cutting the raised portion of the lid, where the stock filter sits, off and the filter fit perfectly.

i used to get a CEl when i did the air box mod and when i uped the boost with a sweet lil trick but all u gotta do to fix it is disconnect the battery for at least 10min than hook it back up and drive easy on it for about 30-40miles to let the ECu relearn it self than your set.....at least it worked on mine

Thats what fixed mine, a lil soft driving after a soft reset. heh, actually what happened was I took my fiancee out to see "40yr old virgin", it;s an ok movie, but the best ending was going through the mcdonald's drive-thru at 12"30am and going "SWEET! My CEL is off!! AWESOME!!" right after the teller asked "may i take your order" LOL, they were taken back for a sec heh.

the check engine lite comes on casue your car is running lean but in this cas for the colbalt is not really a bad thing casue they run too rich to begin with in my thought,
your best bet is to but an after market air intake system fomr gravana or modern performance whn they come out in october casue they will have and up graded mass air flow sensor on them and your car wont be throwing any cel

1 the maf cannot handle the air coming through a new filter? wha...? since you know this, maybe you could enlighten us on the capapbilities of the maf... lol
2 the check engine light comes on from a multitude of issues, that's why you use an odb scanner to find out what it means. does anyone know of a way to get the code to display on the driver info panel?
3 you get a free maf with the intakes? you know those oem one cost $52 from online. i'm not sure how they can afford to give us a $50 part on a $200 intake and make decent money. but does anyone know about this?

the stock air box is very restrictive on how much air coming threw past your mass air flow sensor, and the computers on ant new ss supercharged cobalts are very touchy, and the engines computer relays that as a problem and the cel comes on it not really a problem it will just keep comeing on and off but it not damaging any thing the code that is thrown is saying you running lean in fuel bank one if you take it to a dealer thats what the OBD SCANNER will tell you, they will even tell you its the filter and the box being half open funny and stupid as it sounds its ture and if you moded you stock air box and bypassed the snorkle on the intake you removed the bottom half of the box and never put it back on#3 garvana they are making a cold air intake to replace the stock intake on the car it from the sc to the filter the cars mass air flow sensor is part of the air box there for if you remove the stock box your maf sensor is gone the intake has a maf sensor as part of the intake system its going to take the info that it processes and well not send an error to you cars computer, the intake will connects with the maf senson plug harness on the cobaltss the intake sells for 250 how they make money you asked idk but im sure they are i dont think they would sell it for that price if they arent

If you have OnStar one of the features is supposed to be the ability to have them do a remote read and they're supposed to tell you why the CEL is on. I have not tried it yet cause I haven't had a check engine light come on, I don't know if they give you the exact code or just tell you if it's critical or non-critical.
