Cobalt ss/sc down :(
Cobalt ss/sc down :(
Cobalt ss/sc with about 140k on the odometer, ill try and describe this to the best of my ability. so im heading into town on the bypass cruising around 75. Then i here the ding and see "power steering" pop up on the display screen, so i slow down to like 65 and then the car began to slow down by itself, the mph gauge was at 0 when i was clearly going about 50, so i immediately set my aeroforce to cyclic scan to see if it was the engine acting funny, iat2 was about 16° above iat, kr at 0 and my afr gauge was normal so i come to a stop and cut the car off. Let it sit for a bit and turned the key on, didnt start it, got out looked around, didnt see anything wrong, so i got back n the car started it up, started fine got out, looked around the car AGAIN...nothing... So i get going a lil and notice smoke puffing from my car! So i pull over and cut it off. I see a trail of fluid on the road from my car, it looked dark so im thinkin oil... But i got under the car and got some on my hands and smelled it, then took the dip stick out n sniffed it...didnt smell the same, it was def black got my car towed to a shop and ill prolly get my buddy to take it to his house so we can work on it
Now lately the only diff things ive been throwing (code wise) or feeling diff is a P0128 code and i have a new thermostat ready to go in other than that at times when i elongate gears i could feel like my clutch would be hard to come back to me like the travel of the peddle would be there but past 3/4 of Pushing it in i could feel it disegage, daily driving was good but i noticed that and didnt get on it alot considering missing a gear would be really easy, any ideas of what couldve went wrong?

Was it oily? Probably if u can get down there again and grab a white paper towel and see its color...if red..... Trans fluid...
But check all the hosing on the heat exchanger also .. might be coolant.. it shouldn't be too hard to tell appart

It was dark and oily, def not oil or coolant, i doubt its trans fluid since its a 5 speed, sorry for the delay im at work right now it was tough to get in 1st gear and when i tried to ease off the clutch its like something was holding it back
ur clutch system runs off the brake resistor check ur brake fluid...i would bet its low...
get the car in the air and right were the oil pan and the bell housing meet i think there is a plug...pull it out if u get oil or break fluid ur through out bearing is leaking.

It was giving you shifting problems before, it was dark and oily, didn't smell the same as engine oil (used Brake Fluid has a stronger smell), and then it was tuff to get if into 1st.
I'd say throwout bearing busted. Or maybe even something as simple as the clip came out on the distribution block on the tranny.
But yes, the LNF throw out is an 'upgrade' for the LSJ. While you're at it, I would recommend changing the Tranny Fluid, Cable Bracket, and Roll Pin with the LNF 'upgraded parts' all while that transmission is out (if needing to change the throw out). Heck, I would probably change clutch and flywheel depending on budget, especially if that throw out busted and got brake fluid all over the clutch!
I noticed ZZP isn't currently selling the throwout bearing due to bad installations on the customer base side. Crate Engine Depot has them though.
