conflicted about tune, want opinions

So, I'm almost done with my "winter project" upgrades (yes, I realize winter has been over for a while now ) and I'm gonna need a tune. I went to the last shop that tuned my car (before I got it) and they want $450 for a dyno tune--not including the credits, since my VIN is already on their cable.

this seems excessive to me, but....is it?

I've never tuned before, so I'm not comfortable doing it myself, but for the cost of the tune above, I could buy a brand new HP Tuners. I'd need to pay someone to help me, but seems like it would be worth it.

1) should I just get with one of the experienced tuners here, pay for the credits and the tune?

2) should I just pay the $450 and STFU ?

3) should I buy the VCM suite and then beg (pay) for help?

Buy hp tuners and have someone with experience with these cars tune you. Dont let no shop experiment with your car.

$450 for a dyno tune isn't bad at all. As long as they know how to tune a dyno tune would be the way to go IMO if you don't know how to tune yourself.

I had pretty much decided, if I was going to spend the $, I'd go "all the way", but are the extra features beneficial to a novice?

any opinion on

1) do it myself
2) pay for the dyno tune
3) pay for a remote tune

?

Do you plan on doing further upgrades? Place near me that dynotune charges $350 for a dyno tune but $350 for retunes also.

I think dyno tune is a good way to go if you don't plan on doing anymore performance mods. But if you think you'll keep modding, a simple street tune probably better idea.

Personally, both the tunes on my car were done just street wise and I'm very happy with them. Shop tunes scare me cause you're not always sure if the guy knows the car well. (outside of the known ones like zzp ect.)

I am definitely not done modding. Ported head, cams, bigger blower are all in my future, and probably not all at once.

I'm not scared of this shop's tunes. They're competent and reputable.
