The Correct Way to Add Intercooler Coolant?

So, there are many threads on filling up the intercooler coolant after installing a H/E, all of them are pretty much different too.

So, what is the correct way to do this without an Option B setup? I replaced the pump, so everything is working, I just need the correct "order" of filling.

Right now, with the car running I pop the hood and check the level, if the level is below the Hot Full mark, I pop the cap off and fill it up to the Hot Full mark. Sometimes even if the level is way below the Hot Full mark, popping the cap off makes coolant **** out and I wonder if I'm just taking a step backwards.

So, what's the method for filling that I should repeat over and over until the coolant level no longer drops and all the air is out?

Should the car always be on when filling, and should I only fill when I see barely any coolant in the tube? Do I need to open the bleeder screw everytime I fill as well?

Thanks a lot for the advice, I want to make sure I get this done properly so I can enjoy my new kit!

i had the same problem man, and i just couldnt get all the air out of the system. i finally just broke down and got the extra resevoir tank and made my own flow through system. voila, no more air bubbles.

other than that, the way you have been doing it (removing the cap after the engine is cool so there isnt pressure) is probably the only way. then again i dont think outside the box much.

Well actually I'm opening the cap when the car is on, because my logic is this: if the car's not on, you won't see how full it really is because the full mark is for when the coolant's hot.

I think my logic could be wrong.

Sometimes I open up the cap and it spews coolant everywhere, sometimes it doesn't, it's driving me mad. I need to figure out the right way to do this, is it as easy as taking the cap off when the car is cool and not running and adding more coolant until I see it in the bottom of the filler tube?

I just don't know... UGH!

Fill it up at the filler neck, wait for it to get into system, fill some more, done.

So, running vs. not running doesn't matter? Just keep topping it off to the bottom of the tube every time I notice it's not in the bottom of the tube?

Thanks bro, I appreciate any help

You want it running as the pump will keep flowing. Just pop the hood and fill it up as it goes away. Drive a bit, check, fill, repeat.

So, if I drive for a while and check, and the coolant is above the filler tube line, for a couple days now, perhaps the air has bled?

Yup.

If you can see the coolant flowing in the tube then you should be good.

Thanks bro, I guess air bled out of my system in 3 days, not what I was expecting given everyone complaining about it taking 2 weeks or so.

Wierd, timing was pulled hardcore in second gear when I was WOT, car bogged, then climbed to 5K, bogged, then to redline. I popped the hood, coolant wasn't flowing through the tube, added more coolant.

The strange thing was, the coolant was flowing through the tube for about a couple days, then all the sudden I needed to add more today. I've checked below the car, no leaks (I left a white piece of paper under the points that would leak, and it's totally clean). I guess it's an air pocket that had to go..
