Arrow Engine Swap

Has anyone thought about an engine swap, I was thinkn and wondering if you could get GM's crate 350 or 350 Ramjet engine in it, I mean, you see what a 4 cylinder can do with this car, now how bout a Small Block V8, and modded with upgraded cams and everything, eh, just wondering if with the right modifications and harnesses if it could be done or if there's enough room, I plan on buying another vehicle shortly and taking my SS of the road and making it only a week-end warrior and show car, so if hood clearance is a problem, forget putting a hood on, or get one of the huge hoods like they did on the older style SS's with the big blowers and scoops

ummm.. theres a cobalt drag car thats only a 4 cynlider and it puts out over 1000hp if i rememeber right, so why in the world would some one want to put a v8 in there when you can get more power from the engine thats in there allready. i guess if it's something you just want to do and have the money go for it, but it doesn't make much sense to me.

Well other than the fact that the 4 cylinder engine barely fits so I know a v8 wouldnt fit, the idea sounds cool.

they have been putting 351's in the ford focus.. i have no doubt a 350 would fit lol

now if you could get one of the 572 big block 700 hp crate motors from gm in there... that would be the feat of the year

anything can fit in cars. I've seen one guy shove a Corvette C4 or C5 corvette 5.7L motor into a cavailer engine bay. (I believe it was an 87 Z24 hatchback). I've seen 427's going into Geo Metro's & recently witnessed a guy shoehorn a 3800 Series II Supercharged Grand Prix Motor into a fiero.

Trust me, ANYTHING CAN FIT with some modifications. It's the time and money invested. Do you really want to do something like that? Most likely not...

if i did, it would be a 350, something bigger would be 2 heavy, and would require replacing a lot more, be nice to get the hump cut into the car for a drive shaft to make it RWD so when u do have that 8 in it, your lil feather weight can do all sorts of wheelies, plus, if you get sometime of blower or dualcharging or twin turbo set up, just imagine it, of course, you gotta think about the gas bill 2 though, eh, oh well, might as well do it b4 we are all driving around vehicles powered by AAA batteries and soybeans

Why didn't you just buy an F-body?

cuz i only spent, at most, 5 grand more and got a brand new car, that with the right amount of mods can beat a stock F-body, or maybe slightly modded, obviously nothing more then an intake when i say this though, cuz i know what they're capable of, if i ever got one, I;d want a Trans AM, which by the way, all the F-body guys have been complementing me on how fast the SS is, one actually thought it did have a V8.

The reason you can "easily" put a 351 into a Focus is cuz it sits on anAWD platform, w2hich makes it relatively easy to install the large engine vertically. It wouldn't fit horizontally, which is the problem with the Cobalt platform=FWD only.

It would take a lot of cutting and money to fit a small block in there. Plus the money you would spend would equal just getting a 400hp 05 GTO for probably 10 grand less than what it would take to do this "project"

Plus the traction issues, the weight issues up front, the transmission issues...def. not worth it in any way shape...or...and you guess it...form.

An LS1 in an all-wheel drive Cobalt would be awesome. Kinda like the SVT Focus in europe.

The thing is, it's much easier on an LS1 to run at 450+ HP for a good amount of time than it would be for a 4 cyl motor. Once a 4 cyl gets in that power range they become a little high strung. So having an all aluminium small block in a Cobalt WOULD be awesome, but very expensive. However, it's only a matter of time before some speed freak actually does the swap.

yeah, this motor is able to be built to insane power levels that you'll never get anyways.

if you have the money for an engine swap, why don't you just do a proper turbo setup, and be good for 6-700hp. surely that will satisfy the craving for power. now for the rumble, again:

for anyone who has the Auto tranny. a 3500 Series from the new Malibu would bolt right up to it if I don't go turbo in the future I think I'm gonna swap a V6 in my baby.

Yea, I was just going to mention why not go V6? I really don't know all that much about doing an engine swap, but if most V8s are too big or if your concerned about making it RWD, what about a FWD V6? Somebody (Raven, I think) on j-body.org did it, and it was pretty successful I think. Used the 3800 in a Cavy.
