without a res. it wouldnt sound good. it would be very hollow and raspy sounding. some people upgrade the section that goes over the rear axle with a 2.5" piece of pipe, because that is the smallest section of the stock ss/sc catback at 2.25". if you take it to a good shop, im sure you can customize the stock system without the worries of an exhaust leak or any other problems.

the stock lsj exhaust (ss/sc) is all diff sizes. the downpipe is 2.75" then necks down to 2.50" for about an inch before the connection flange for the catback. The catback is 2.50" all the way from the downpipe to the rear axle then it necks down to 2.25" over the axle to the muffler.

I whave a magnaflow catback with the rez taken out, a hollowed out cat, and gm header. Its loud as **** and has loud back fires when you let off the gas. The only down side is it is raspy especially in 1st and 2nd gear.

No resonator you are going to get a good amount of rasp and popping! Stick with a resonator, it doesnt hurt performance and makes so much difference..

Your going to get a raspy sound..not real bad..but your not going to pick up much power.. If you want to pick up alittle power and sound.. Get a good quality muffler and have a exhaust shop make you a axle back..it would be about half the price of a cat back..

Or just save up a couple hundred bucks, hop over to mandrelexhaustsystems.com and grab a decent cat back for like 300 bucks, the gains from that will be MUCH better then blowing your money on a muffler and over the axle replacement.

raspy isn't as bad as people say, raspy is good, like american muscle with flowmasters. I went without a res in my cobalt and it sounded fine a raspy crackle between gears sounds nice like a SRT4 or a WRX. With that big stock muffler I don't think you'd notice a huge change in sound. Cut that stock muffler out and replace it with a glasspack they are cheap and sound awesome. Try it, trust me

That won't sound good. You can't just toss out the resonator and the muffler and put in a glasspack that will sound like pure crap trust me I have been there. It will be obnoxiously loud and WAY to raspy. The rasp were talking about is not srt/wrx rasp its an annoying crappy sound.

I recommend a high flow cat + muffler + resonator to get that deep low rumble sound.
