GM stage 2 with 100 octane??

Ok guys well I searched and couldnt find. I know it will be safe and not hurt nothing but will this give me any more HP. Im racing a guy tonight with a 300zx, late 80's model with the single turbo, fresh motor just put it and for some reason no exhaust. Im not sure exactly what he has done to the engine or if bigger turbo but I dont want to lose any money if you know what i mean. Now do you think it will give me a little more hp if i run 100 octane or what???

100 won't give you any more power then 87 will BUT it will resist detonation which robs power. If I were you I'd run it so the car can boost as high as it wants with not worring about having timing pulled and losing power.

aight thats cool so you think i should just keep with what gm recommends and do 93 since i have a stage 2??? also what you think my chances are on this?? im hoping the guy doesnt have a early 90's 300zx engine swap in it.

you say the Z doesnt' have an exhaust? huh that could be interesting. do you know what he did to the engine? if its just a rebuilt stocker you should beat him with no problems. 1984 - 1988 300ZX turbo's are low 15 second cars stock, on the stock fuel system with some bolt on's they can do mid to low 14's. after that they are pretty expensive to make faster. that is unless of course he stuffed a vg30det in there. thats a quad cam single turbo and they can be pretty righteous.

yeah thats the only thing im scared of is if its the vg30det. im not sure exactly how imma be able to tell. i saw that he has a boost gauge and that he was pretty confident that he could beat me. i know people put gauges and everything in their cars for no damn reason but still. i know people underestimate our cobalts but he might know a little something about it. i guess i got some research to do from now till tonight.

well if its a vg30et, its sohc with a single t3 turbo max boost on the stock turbo and injectors is 12psi. like i said with bolt on's mid 14's tops. now if he's spraying he could very well break mid 13's be sure to watch for that.

now the vg30det and the vg30dett are completely different animal's they can make in excess of 400hp with bolt on's get him to pop the hood. its pretty easy to tell the difference between the sohc and the dohc engines

this is what a 84-88 vg30et looks like

this is what a vg30det(t) looks like

he popped the hood and everything. from what i remember the first pic is what the engine looks like so thats good news. im not worried about spraying because i told him if hes spraying then we are not doing it because to me its not a fair race with anybody whos spraying. totally cheating to me. well i guess ill see what happens and tell you guys the results. who knows he could have a build engine and i just might not know.

if your car isnt tuned for 100 octane dont run it. If your car is tunned for 93 octane thats the highest level of timing advance your car will run. You wont get anymore HP. You can actually lose HP because higher octane fuels burn slower and are harder to ignite. So it might take a few millionths of a second longer to ignite the fuel which could actually give you a small amount of retard in the timing due to lack of fuel ignition.

hopefully its close to stock. if he went thru the trouble of upgrading the fuel system and turbo, those engines are very capable of 450+ hp but its a little expensive because the turbo and fuel pump have to be replaced and intercooler added, as well as new injectors and a new ecu.

definitely let us know how you do. unless he did beef up everything i think your going to beat him pretty readily, however Z's get really good traction so be sure to get a good launch. From a roll could be really interesting because of how little boost they use there is no turbo lag. good luck man.
