Maybe your gauge is broken. I know the gauge my car came with only read 60 kpa instead of ~83kpa at max. A quick trip to the dealer (BS, 2 week wait) had me a new part and full boost readings. Nothing changed about the performance though, it was simply a broken part.

i think something is wrong as well. 12.5 is the norm ... 8 is like whoa low ... check your boost lines dude the first ss i test drove had a boost issue so I would take it in and give em holy hell so that they find the issue

Oni, stock i was hittin 8 KPA, not lbs of boost! That adds up to about 12 lbs. It all makes sense now, im a knucklehead that doesn't know how to read guages :P

Again, sorry to all I look like the only asshat that didn't know this lol.

Hey at least you can admit your faults. I give you props for that, but beer is still on you! Glad to hear your boost is where it should be!

80 Kpa is where you need to be Mike (actually around 86 I believe) my car in good air sometimes gets closer to 100kpa but thats rare... your should hit over that with the STG 2 I believe...(someone correct me if im wrong)....

Same for me when i was stock 80 to 90 Kpa at full throttle and max revs depending the weather

Kpa x 0.145 = Psi

i have a question if boost is relative to rpms how come when i take my foot of the gas just to keep my rpms more constant and im not accelerating just maintaining rpm's the boost drops all the way down???? i know im a noob please help

Ive noticed that to. It only going to boost if your almost half throttle.

that is because boost only occurs if the pressure in the intake is lower than the supercharger's pumped-in air. If you are not accelerating, but maintaining even throttle, then you are not INCREASING the RATIO of supercharged air to intake air pressures. That does NOT mean that you are not putting compressed air into the cylinders, and it does NOT mean that you are not receiving a performance gain from the SC at those times. When you decelerate, you cause the intake pressure to be greater than the SC air pressure, so boost goes negative (essentially).

So, to be clear, boost is nothing more than the RATIO of pressures. Is is NOT an indication of how compressed the air actually is, and is NOT an accurate indication of power loss/gain.

/rant

Hope that helps understand "boost" :-)

If you want to know more about the boost. Go to the video section and check out "2.0 Ecotec internals". This will give you a better understanding about how boost works as well as your intercooler.

morning.

yeah http://www.cobaltss.org/media/2.0-Ecotec.wmv
is a great way to see what goes on in there.

What always amazes me is how hot the air gets just from being compressed. I understand the pressure/temp relationship, but it still amazes me that you can heat up air just by compressing it.

I was hitting 12.5 stock, and I put my AEM CAI on and now I hit 13-13.5 I was pretty amazed. The stage 2 kit only puts out 15-16 pounds of boost??? disapointing I just bought mine and am installing it this week sometime so hopefully I see about 17 and I will be happy.
