GM's shortcomings

I wonder whose idea it was to throw 12 psi on a 2900 pound car and shortin the crap out of the first gear. What was the point of that? So once you burn through first gear, spinning no matter how much throttle you give the car, you get to shift into second and compleatly fall out of the powerband...

Now if i had a stock 7K revlimiter, i would be able to take first a little higher so i might actually shift into a little bit of boost...

I am not flaming gm at all, I love my cobalt, i just wish first wasnt so short.

Strange I never spin first. Guess that's because I feather the clutch rather than dump it. I do see your point though. Reminds me of the last Jeep I had. Insane gear ratio and stupid first gear, if you weren't climbing the face of Everest without a winch it was completely useless.

Get stage 2... your first gear worries will be gone.

I don't see why the car's didn't come like this stock... it's way better than the stock tune in terms of drivability.

Try driving a manual trans 1 ton turbo Diesel. You got till almost 5 mph till you have shift.

first gear still is too short though even with a raised limiter. If gm only would have used a more sensible first gear say 3.2 : 1, this car would have been capable of 13's stock.

if i still have traction problems after the tires and the torque damperner, then i will turn the boost down... not happily though, i would rather just have traction with my full power.

as would every one else on a high powered FWD car.. but it doesnt usually work out that way.. and turning down the bost in 1st gear doesnt effect your 1/4 times really at all cuz you hook right the f**k an go.. not spin

ehhh, depends how you look at it, i'm guessing that the first gear is as it is to make the other 3 follow in logical order. the 4.05 is the biggest part of the problem, but i feel that if it had the 3.91 from the 2.4 and the 2.4 had the 4.05.... the SS/SC wouldn't pull away from the 2.4 like it does.

You're right...that being the purpose for making a higher end model. Why would would they design the ss/na to be the same as an sc....
