Gutting the SC, only solution to TC swap?

I did a search, looking to a solution on the supercharger to turbo swap. All I found out is that the SC is gut, and then what? Is that the only solution? Other approaches taken so far?

Will this work?

this is on a 2.4 solstice that used a LSJ intake/intercooler manifold.
This was from the ecotecforums.

That looks like it would work fine.

looks like they welded on the TB to an adapter plate?

Looks pretty cool.

i'm really interested in how to make mine turbo as well but I don't want to spend a rediculous 5 grand to do it. And the kits don't even come with intercooler. Maybe my math is wrong but turbo + manifold+ custom intake manifold+ other turbo goodies = 5K?

Only thing with that plate is we have sensors such as SCIP that the PCM needs. Those will need to be placed.

alrite with out having to go overboard heres the long and short of it.

gutting the blower is the most economical and most efficient way to do it rite now, not only is a gutted bower an excellent manifold "hat" but if you keep the snout(DJT did not) you keep the same belt wrap and direction thus turning the alternator in the proper direction.

when you swap to a 2.2L set up you drop 15%-25% of your alternators total output.(the cobalt units actually put out more then the ION pieces(different manufacturer) then you have a larger load on the insufficient alternator.

just a short tid-bit, much more information behind this.

Some good info. I was wondering what to do about the intake manifold as well. I'm guessing the 2.2l eco wont doesn't work...? I would assume that somebody would have tried that already.

That tb adapter is sweet!!In all honesty,i dont think it would be difficult to make at all.Just make up a couple of templates, bring it to a machine shop and have them weld it up.Id rather have an adapter, this way you can sell the s/c and make a few bucks on it.It would help pay for the turbo conversion.Plus i think it would be better with that setup, cause u can just run the pipe over the engine from the turbo to the tb.

you guys are all missing the point by the sounds of things......

sure you could use a TB adapter plate like the piece on the solstice, sure you could use a 2.2unit but thats not the issue at hand

useing the 2.2 piece means loosing the built in A/W intercooler.....they are farrrr more efficient then any A/A piece and are stealthy.

building a TB adapter that removes the blowers brings us back to my last point, removing the blower limits your charging system capeabilites. when you have to swap down to a 2.2/2.4 pice you loose amprige output thus forcing the car to run under the 14.4V it was designed for. DJTs car runs around the 13.4-13.6mark....not bad, but in traffic or heat the car suffers and runs rough or will run out of power with the fans and such on thus staling the car.

the LSJ alt will not work with the blower gone because its drive pulley is clutched, it will only spin one way.

as for the procharger comment, please don't waste my time with things like that.

So,im sure you can get a pulley made up in place of the s/c.Like the one that comes with the tag turbo kit.

that is doing nothing but increasing the cost(custom **** aint cheep)of the swap, and complicating things....

think it over for a seconded.......whats the down side to useing the blower housing?

Increasing the cost?By what a few hundred bucks?Thats simple **** man.Im not saying i can make it,but how much could a throttle body adapter plate and a friggen pulley be?How much can we sell the blower for?400-500 bucks?Im sure you can buy that stuff with the money you make from selling the s/c,and you will probably have some money left over.Plus it will make the turbo plumbing a hell of alot easier.Theres nothing wrong with using the blower housing, but if the parts are readily available to bypass the s/c completely,id rather do that.
