h/e + intercoolers

I was looking for a heat exchanger and I found intercoolers. So my question is what's the diffrence between a heat exchanger and an intercooler. Which one is better for cooling the supercharged lsj with a lot of mods? Thx guys

intercooler is air to air and is used on turbo cars and a heat exchanger is liquid to air and it use on supercharged cars

Pretty simple but then y does the 2.0 supercharged motor have a intercooler? That's the one in the middle of the ac condenser n the rad rite?

no thats the heat exchanger .... the intercooler is inside the intake manifold under the supercharger. the intercooler on the ss/sc is actually 4 small tubes that flow coolant to cool the charge.

wrong .... we have an intercooler and heat exchanger. read what i stated above.

The terms can be kind of confusing so I will attempt to explain:

A heat exchanger is the part where the heat transfer from the cooling medium is diffused with an external cooling medium. On the LSJ this is the radiator on the front that the intercooler coolant flows through and is cooled with air.

An intercooler is the term used when refering to an aftercooler. The aftercooler is the part where the internal air is cooled using a cooling medium (either liquid or air). On the LSJ the aftercooler is the laminova cores in the intake manifold that use the intercooler liquid to cool the charge air.

Air to Air cooled turbos typically only have an aftercooler, however the aftercooler is also a heat exchanger.

I hope this clarifies it for you.

I know you don't have to inform me of this lol.

To the op you should buy this and keep your stock heat exchanger / aftercooler setup and include this with it. Basically this would be an FMAC "front mount after cooler" type of thing lol.

Ok I kinda got u. Now my next question is do I need a dual pass intercooler endplate to do a heat exchanger?

Simple.

Heat Exchange is an air to liquid unit. Air passes through the unit and cools the liquid.

Intercooler is an air to air unit. Air passes through the intercooler and cools the air charge passing through it.

Misinformation does not benefit anyone. You are half right on what you said. See below from my previous post:

Intercoolers are actually when the charge air is cooled while it is being charged. This is how turbo engine airplanes cooled the charge air. There are no actual intercooled cars.

front mount intercooler is just a word that is kinda thrown around on cars.... intercooler to diffrent people means diffrent things... to some people who are into cars( not so much supercharged car's) they would say we have an intercooler which technicaly is correct but not the front mount H/E they are seing and are refering to... the above posts are very informative and correct. but just so u know intercooler is a very common thrown around word thats not always the same to everyone

Our car uses a H/E Stock and to my beleafe Air to Water is the best coolin method.... BTW to who ever said T/C guys use intercoolers thats not always correct... you can still use a H/E with a turbo car as long as its a water cooled turbo and not oil cooled or Any other fluid... Thanks And good luck OTTP IS A GREAT H/E IMO
