Heads interchangeable?

In reference to UtohCop's post about Patriot Performance 2.2l heads, does anyone know if they are modular in design? (can they be interchanged from 2.0, 2.2, 2.4l LSJ's? Or are they all of different design).

Big question is the cc size. Those stage 2 heads on the LSJ would yield a 30+ horsepower gain without any other mods.

The heads should be the same, I know that Maven has stated the LSJ heads are better than the standard L61 heads.

Are there any drawbacks to upgrading the heads? Or is pretty much a good sound investment?

Arent cam lengths diff on the LSJ vs L61 ? I that may prevent head w/cam swapping... but if the coolant/oil passages and bolt holes line up.. you could just get a new set of cams... would be interesting to know..

I've always understood that the LSJ is a destroked & bored out version of the 2.2 with upgraded internals, so I doubt they would be interchangable.

Please correct me if I'm wrong

Bored out and Destroked is just a bigger bore and shorter stroke player.

The heads swap fine- (it's been done)
But (as previously mentioned ) you would need to find a different exhaust cam as it's shorter in the L61
PLUS
You would need to move the camshaft position sensor from the end of the exhaust cam, to the drive on the end intake cam. (just has a cover over it- as it's used as a power-steering pump drive on other applications)
BUT
you might want to consider just having the LSJ head CNC ported instead as the sand-cast LSJ head is considered superior in structure to the lost-foam cast L61 head. This is the reason why the 1000-1400HP section of the build book, recommends the LSJ head for running sick boost levels.

the 2.2 head is a fomn cast head , and uses a different cam shaft , from the 2.0

the 2.0 head is a sand cast head , and is a better header for boost applications , well over 45psi according to my friend that used to run the gm drag team cavalier and sunfire

Believe what you will but there are numerous other people that have used the Patriot head (as sold by Saturn Motorsports- www.saturnmotorsports.com ) AND the GM Performance parts ported 2.2 head, on the LSJ block. Is it a direct swap? No- as per the aforementioned items. (cam and CMP sensor)
The 2.4 is altogether another matter as the LE5 head includes a different front housing to accommodate the VVT actuators.

the head bolts on , but you have to use the 2.2 cams , you cant use the 2.0 cams

also i believe the cam position sensor is run off the exhaust cam , and the 2.2 head has no provisions for it

also the cam cover is different , each cam cover is specific for each head , plus the 2.2 has waste spark coils , the 2.0 and 2.4 have 4 individual coils , and the 2.0 has a cover for the coils
