Info on the boost guage via autometer
I ended up emailing Autometer on the stock boost guage to clear up some questions I had . To many opinions on the forums , so may as well go to the source . For one , the boost reading . Per autometer , the reason the boost guage will not read higher than 12.5 psi is because that is limited by the PCM , NOT the guage . Theres nothing in the guage itself that limits it to 12.5 psi . So , looks like the stock guage will not be worthless when the pcm access comes . Concern 2 , for me anyways is the lighting of the gauge . To me its to dim . I have side airbags and dont have a clue whats behind the a-pillar yet , so I wanted to find out if the gauge is lit using the normal replaceable 194 bulb thats in all autometer 2 1/16" guages . Um , no ....its not . Per Autometer , they had intially used white led's and the guage was MUCH brighter , but GM wanted it dimmer to match their ancient incandesent backlighting on everything else . I was told by them , that the bulbs in it are still dimmer LED's but theres no way to replace them . I guess if u really wanted to , u could dissassble the guage and solder new led's in , but then u have to recalibrate the needle .
Not groundbreaking info , but helpful nonetheless .
