Inter cooler pump performance decrease.

My inter cooler pump has gone out and I'm going to get it replaced soon. I know you can still drive your car normally without it but if I understand correctly you loose some performance with it but what kind of performance loss are we talking here? Are we talking horsepower loss of 5-15hp? Is it torque? Is it reaction time or something similar? I haven't found a definitive answer for this.

if the inlet temps rise too much and the heat exchanger is not doing the job because the pump is out, the ecu commands spark retard.

a lot of power lost. retarded lol

Excuse me but I didn't realize not knowing something deemed me a retard. Sorry for not being god. I'll make sure I know better next time. I'll also make sure that if I ever decide to get any performance upgrades I'll stay away from Powell since it seems like the supporting vendors from them are jerks. Thanks for the help

Spark retard is a condition where your ignition timing is retarded to prevent detonation in your combustion chamber so your engine doesn't blow.

Powell did not call you retarded.

You're retarded.

I know what spark retard is and I wasn't referring to that line I was referring to the line underneath it. It may be the way the punctuation is placed but that's what it sounded like to me in the second line. Maybe I read it the wrong way but that's how I'm reading the second line.

I apologize if I read your post wrong it may just be the way the punctuation was placed which is why the second line sounded off to me.

my pump has been out for about 4 months, I replaced it this past weekend.

as long as you don't drive crazy and use lots of boost, you should be ok, at least that is what I did.

I did notice a slight difference when I drove for a while with it broken. car seems more responsive under boost now.

if you are the least bit mechanically inclined, change it yourself. if it wasn't for the clamps being fused to the hoses, it would have been a 20 minute fix.

i have an 07, not sure what you have. got my pump from zzp because dealer price was almost 600.

easiest way to get the top hose off for me, was to feed the pump up through the gap between the intake and the radiator and work the hose off up there. more room.

You're clearly new here, so here is some advice to make your experience a more pleasant one.

Get over the butt hurt and realize that more than half the people here use a phone to post. As such, random . characters in random places mean nothing.

He clearly said "a lot of power losss.retarded lol" he didn't say retard. He said retarded as in the power loss is retarded. Don't jump to assumptions powell is prolly the friendliest vendor on here.

I felt a difference. I drove around with a on and off pump for a year. Slowwwww.

At least when you change it for the first time, it'll be easy the second+ cause the lines won't be glued on anymore.

lol and BTW ZZP or Yates Motorsports have the best prices on the pumps. Sorry ,Tom@crateenginedepot.com , your prices are too high on these pumps and those GM parts guys at the big Silo in Detroit should get Walmart to come in to run their darn parts business....

I just rebuilt mine a couple weeks ago. Search for how to on this site. Total cost $6.50 plus and extra half hour or so for the rebuild. Longest part was getting the damn hose clamps off.
