Knock with Stage 2

Hope u guys can help. Yesterday and again today I have noticed knock. I went with a colder plug with a smaller gap to ensure things ran smoothly but now randomly I'll get knock. It'll happen and I'll listen for it and shut the car off wait and turn it back on and it will be gone.

What do u guys think?? Suggestions would be nice. I'm really worried about this.

I don't know bro but what did you gap your plugs at? I gapped mine at .38 and I don't have a knock. Make sure your oil is full and throw a bottle of fuel system cleaner in your tank. Not enough oil is usually what makes the knock.

I dont think you have knock. You won't get preignition or detonation at idle, only under load. Not sure what you're hearing though.

I've recently installed the stage 2 kit, and my engine sounds somewhat different. Sorry to be a newb on this, but how can you tell when the engine is "knocking"? I understand what it is, but, for lack of a better way of asking this, what does it sound like?
Also, would it should up on a scan tool, like the Interceptor from Aeroforce?

Thanks.

I was trying to decern between knock and sumtin else because I have never heard knock before. The engine runs fine, actaully runs very smooth, I only hear when I start the car and it's like it comes and goes.

The noise is like someone is tapping their knuckle on a woeden table.

thats not knock...I have had that too upon startup, but its not a cobalt thing. Its an every vehicle thing. Usually just the sound of the upper end of the engine before all the oil gets there and warmed up. Valvetrain noise I am sure.

p7x you may want to check the tensioner for the timing chain .... does the sound seem to be coming from the right side of the vehicle ? I had the same issue and it gradually got worse.... started soundling like a time bomb at idle..... it will be warrantied and is a known issue with these cars...

Take a couple of nuts and bolts and toss them in a food blender, the turn it on and walk into another room. If you take the actual sound of the blender's motor out of the picture, that's about what pinging sounds like.

Not sure if it was mentioned, but it may be worth checking the drive belt as well. It might have a little play in it. I doubt it would be the cause, but it can't hurt to check!

Push the clutch in when you here it. If it goes away when you do that, start looking into a new clutch and TOB.

The ghost knocking is not engine detonation (not knock), is not exhaust neither a valve sound, it's the EVAP sytem in the gas tank, it makes a TOC TOC TOC sound like someone hammers the gas tank.

Realized now that its not knock......knock isnt actually a knocking sound more or an electrical sound, im going toward the route of valve train. I will try all the above mentioned and see what happens and let you guys know. thanx for the suggestions guys.

Have you tried putting in the stock plugs? They are supposed to work with the stage 2

This is not a knock, the 3400 and 3800 engines also get this (not sure about the new 3500 and 3900) and usually starts happening once the engine is broken in after a couple thousand miles. It fades after a minute or two of running, or revving the engine a few times makes it go away. I wouldn't worry about it, but if it concerns you that much bring it up with your dealer.
