A Long Injen Install

So at about 12 this afternoon the FedEx man arrives. Hurray for me, it's my Injen I order from Turbo Tech. So I get the box inside and open it up, and it's just like any other intake for any other car. About 7 hours ago I started this install, having a head start because I already have the car in "storage" in my garage. I begin to take off the tube on the blower, folowed by the pressure relief hose and then I move on to the lower part of the airbox. Injen recomends removing the front bumper, which in my opinion would have been ALOT easier. The top clamp was a sinch, then you move onto the 3 10mm nuts holding the airbox in place. The one is visible from the wheelwell, while the other two require crawling under the car and reaching upwards sifting through the wires for the MAS. The lower stock intake tube is held togeather with some sort of "one use only" type of clamp, which I didn't even remove. With a little bit of grunt I was able to move the box free and disconnect the sensor wire from the actual MAS. That was just for removal, not bad taking my time and such it took about 45 minutes. Also I did disconnect the Negative terminal and left the car on accessory and drained all power by using the brake pedal. So putting the 60 degree elbow into place required a bit of WD-40 on the inner part of the elbow along with a bit on the outside "ring" of the inlet of the blower, but don't fully clamp that down right away. So I decided to start sliding the Injen tube through the opening in the fender. And low and behold that damn screw for the grounding point scrapes the crap out of the tube. So after letting my buddy sand it down and repolish it, by the way it does look better than when it arrived, he came back at about 9. So I went to walmart and got some of the automotive trim in black and put it around the hole in the inner fender and on the edging near the grounding point. So after covering the screw with a towel and wrapping the intake with a towel I carefully snaked the tube through the hole. Also this SHOULD be a 2 person job if you don't want to scratch the tube at all. I had him hold the tube up higher in the engine bay so I could attach the filter and then clamp it down. O and remember when removing the MAS DONT TOUCH ANYTHING BUT THE BLACK PART, AS IT WILL RUIN IT. You can use a 4mm allen to tighten it. Then with the filter attached you need to pull the intake forward over the little mounting rod and use a 10mm to tighten it down, that can also be a PITA(pain in the ass). Also you will probably have to pull the front part of the bumper to the side while pulling the tube forward with it. But after reconnecting the breather line to the Injen tube and reconnecting the MAS wiring and finally tightening all the clamps and reconnecting the battery, I'd have to say it sounds quite good. Even though there is no wheels on my car with a quick rev you can hear the blower quite well, and there is no CEL, which could be because I havent driven it, who knows. So after 6 hours of messing around with it, it's now in the car. Just quick notes, you should spend the $3 on the trimming to put around the opening in the fender as well as the little "lip" by that grounding bolt and becareful while moving the intake in the engine bay your install will hopefully go better than mine did. Sorry for the rant but I would rather help people from my faults

I got mine installed tonight...it was a PITA also. Getting the bolt to line up and not push the fender out is what took the longest time. It totalled about an hour from start to finish.
Here are some pics. I didn't have the ground hit the intake, I had another part near the hole that was hitting mine. I took care of this by using some tubing that I cut in half.
Here....

this is how I solved the rubbing...

You didn't scratch the intake on that little grounding bolt? And Instead of what you used to stop the rubbing I used like door trim molding and also used it on the hole going through the fender. And you did all this without removing the inner fender? that thing is a beiotch to get back in and line up right lol.

also is your inner fender pushed out at all by the tube? because it seems that mine is a little as was worried about the wheel rubing when turning.

lol did I really write a "how to"? I was just going over the small annoying/dumb fitment issues. And from what I've seen so far the Injen hasn't triggered any CEL's or maybe Im not looking hard enough for them lol.

That looks to be a pretty extreme bend where it meets the supercharger...

I like the way my K&N fits... Although I honestly don't think there is a single difference in horsepower between all of the intakes..

From the pic's it looks as if the Injen flares out to 3" at the boot but not a 3" pipe ??

there is a lip on it that is bigger...the rest of it is the same size.
I'll measure to be sure.
I know the boot has a 3" side (tube side) and a 2 7/8" side (intake side).

my K&N was easy to install and it didn't rub on that damn grounding bolt. For me, using the rubber trim around the fender wall hole wasn't worth it so I didn't put it on, doesn't close the gap too much to make a difference. The biggest bitch is getting the intake end where the filter is to attach to the fender. unless everything is loose and not super secure you won't get it bolted on...

intake install on a scale of 1-10 (1 easy, 10 hard) i'd say it's a 6.
