looks like i have to replace the headgasket

im just trying to figure out a list of things i need as far as parts so i dont get stuck

no evidence of coolant in the oil or oil in coolant, compression test came out good leakdown test came out good. but loosing alot of coolant so from what ive seen on here looks like im burning it, dont see smoke so probably burn on the highway or driving around.

should i do the timing chain at the same time?

what else do i need other than a head gasket, people talking about arp bolts alot on here.

anything helps thanks.

Cometic head gasket from zzp. buy some coper spray from a auto parts store.
arp head studs r a must..1 they r reusable..2 u have to replace the stock head bolts wen u take them out.
the arp studs will keep the head down and r a very good upgrade.
gm says to replace the cam bolts wen u take them out i just put a lil blue lock tight o them and never had a problem...
the front covet gasket is reusable.. so no need for that the valve cover gasket is reusable unless they leak..

cometic hg
arp head studs (A MUST)
case of beer

took me better part of a Friday evening after work and had the car back on the road by that night for the races..

i have the factory gm service manuals hit me up if u need help...I've done a few of these i the car. its not very hard and every thing is a lil tight but is possible to do with normal tools

its hard to tell with out knowing the history behind ur engine. Depending on how many miles r on it..
its not a bad idea though..
if u dp that then change the valve seals..zzp has upgraded ones not very expensive.
but just get the head off and get a straight edge and a flash light and check it.

There's no need for that copper spray if you have two flat clean surfaces all you need is a gasket and some arp's

I've never seen a reason to use it. If there's some defect I highly doubt that stuffs going to stop a leak. Never used it and never had a headgasket problem. If you have two flat clean surfaces why would you need it? That's the headhaskets job to seal it.

My cobalt has a Cometic headgasket with no sealant.

How about you really diagnose it and do a coolant pressure test to see where it's going?

Yeah they're only torqued to a couple foot lbs I can't see ever buying new ones. To the op though I would definitely get a new front cover gasket and valve cover gasket. I always replace all gaskets to avoid future headaches. Might as well do it right the first time. I would also have a machine shop take a quick look at the head and make sure it's good to go. You could have it hot tanked too. This would also be a good time to take the lifters out and clean them. I cleaned all of mine when the head was off.
