loud ticking noise

it started about idk maybe 5 months ago a ticking noise upon start up in my car. after about one minute of idle time the noise went away. recently its been getting louder and louder and i would really like to know what the noise is. i dont believe its the timing chain but i wont rule that out just yet, what im wondering is if my valve lash needs adjusting. but im not even sure it the lifters on our cars are even adjustable? any input would be appreciated. i did a search or to and only came up with aftermarket cams and lifters and such thanks alot

It's the timing chain tensioner, or your sc coupler. Pop the hood and see if you can pinpoint the noise.

It's not bad .... you have to pull the valve cover to activate the tensioner but it's not hard.....just takes time .

The tensioner has to be installed while it's compressed (locked in the collapsed position ) When you are done putting it in and it's tight ..... you have to give it a tap to unlock it ....then it springs out the right amount to tension the chain . After that oil pressure does the rest.

You dont have to take the whole side of the engine apart he said take the valve cover off which is on the top not the side and then you can get access to it and do what you need to do

BTW I'd take care of it soon if it is the timing chain tensioner. Mine went bad and I'm glad I had warrenty. It;s not a bad idea to have it checked out. when they pulled my car apart they actually had to replace one of the cams cus they said it had some scaring on it possibly from the bad tensioner failing.

When we pulled mine apart we found the guides were so brittle than when we tapped the tensioner to unlock it ...... the chain slapped off one of the guides.....and it cracked it. The dealer ended up replacing all of them.

just as a update on a long long long ago thread i started i replaced the tensioner and it was still there.. so i stopped caring and decided to start my search for a truck and then realized i owed more then my turd was worth so i bought a header due to a great deal a guess what i found. the gasket between the head and stock manifold was leaking installed new header and gasket and its now gone.. crappy part is i tore the flex pipe and now have another annoying leak but atleast i know its not valve train noise
