Low oil issue?
While driving home last night the message "change oil soon" popped up on the dash. didnt think much of it but i parked and checked the oil and it was almost completely empty. on this oil change i didnt even hit 3000 miles yet. what could be the reason for this?
i also threw in four quarts today but still getting the message. is there a way to get that off?
Thanks ahead of time!

Coming right out of a GM TSB:
Aggressive Driving, High Speed or High RPM Driving
Aggressive driving and/or continuous driving at high speeds/high RPMs will increase oil consumption. Because this may not always be an everyday occurrence, it is hard to determine exactly how much the oil economy will be affected.
A higher rate of oil consumption is normal for vehicles equipped with manual transmissions that are driven aggressively. By "aggressive," we mean operation at high RPM (3,000 RPM to redline), with frequent use of engine braking (using the engine to slow the vehicle). Vehicles that are driven aggressively may consume engine oil at a rate of up to 0.946 L (1 quart) every 805 km (500 mi). This is normal for a vehicle that is driven aggressively. No repair is necessary. This characteristic does, however, require the owner to check the engine oil level at sufficiently frequent intervals, especially when driving aggressively, to assure the oil level remains within the recommended operating range. As the Owner's Manual recommends, you should check the oil level every time you get fuel.
This states that under aggressive driving a consumption of 1L per 500miles is normal. (Note : I do not agree with this in any way just thought you might all be interested in seeing it.)
EDIT: This TSB applies to all gm vehicle lines and therefore should be applied very loosely (likely just GM covering there own ass).

"Change oil soon" comes up, when the display count hits close to 0. This was probably not reset at the last oil change. I would never go by this anyways.. Turn motor off, turn ignition in on position, depress gas pedal 4 times, alert will go away.

i never reseted by touching the gas pedal at all in my cobalt ss supercharged.....but in the equinox and so on chevys yeah....for me i press the info button till i get to the oil life...then when i get there i hold the info and the enter button untill it tells me ACKNOLEGED then boom 100%
i also never would follow a computer thats only way of knowing is counting miles or kms. check oil level and density on a regular basis.
