you know now that I think about it, you are right, the lower section, the cradle is sand cast! sorry about that.

OP the deck of the block is what matters when the headgasket pops. We need to see a pick of the deck if you would like input on the pitting.

the deck of the head matters just as much as the deck of the block

true but the op only stated he was worried about the block, guessing he has no issues on the head.

my mrbelvedere sleeved block

Freshly ported, 3-angle, decked head, ferrea valves, 82# springs, blah blah. I had this done at a diesel shop because they were the only ones with machines big enough for our 13" wide head.

the block and head needs t be finished as fine as possible if it isent it wont hold a head gasket and do not use copper spray on the head gasket

I heard that.

But you can get the car high enough with a jack & stands to drop it out of the bottom

Dude drop it out the bottom, I did it with 4 6-ton jack stands 3 ton jack, 2x4's and a furniture dolly.

I reinstalled with a friends cherry picker but never used the crane portion of it for more than a second to sit it in the cradle. You dont need a cherry picker or anything else but the stuff I mentioned above.

what you are seeing is due to the lost foam casting process and is normal

i was motivated and alone, built the entire engine, car, etc by myself with some cash of course. Turned out ot make 420 very reliable horsepower, or so we shall see, its only been ran hard about 12 times so far.
