the key will extend to #1 main bearing so the harmonic balancer has 2in of key to grab instead of a .25in and water pump gear is fully captured (it also only has .25 of the key running it)by the new key way also

as many of these engines as I have been into the crank key is always or close to being sheared off if you shear the dampner side you loose the oil pump as the dampner turns the oil pump if you shear the other end you loose the water pump so this should fix a potential problem

Will try to give life into this old thread. Does anybody know the details of this modification?

I believe that the key way groove should be extended all the way from the beginning of the crankshaft until the 1st main bearing surface? In this case what do you use as a key way itself? Any piece of material which is machined to the correct size?

Is it necessary to balance the crankshaft after it? Should is be balanced with new key way or without it?

Whatsoever details will be highly appreciated!
