Major coolant issues
Major coolant issues
Well last night was getting on the gas a little heavy while racing stock evo 8 from 40mph roll. Right at the top of 2 gear clear white smake everywhere
Looks like the upper radiator house ripped off guess while under pressure. Anyways car at the dealership right now while in there will get the tranny fixed as 2nd gear is out. Service writter stated that it was 6 hours labor to replace tranny thought it was 10 by the book of course I am not going to disagree but I am sure I will recieve a phone call today stating "hey it is going to be more". Anyone had this coolant problem with the cobalt
Cheers

ok guess i should br more spacific 2nd gear synco out that is why tranny is being replaced therefore a double clutch will get it into to second or rev match and yes 2nd gear is sweet spot for ss bolt 3 rd would be no go at 40 mph way below the pwr band with stg III or for that matter a stock one as well

why am I reminded of that quote from fast and the furious??
Mmm... granny shifting... not double clutching like you should... yadda yadda yadda...
Must be that Stage XVIII super dooper boost-a-rific mod overpressurizing your blinker fluid system.

First off you most likely blew the headgasket, and if you're lucky the engine might be salvagable. If not, you probably blew the engine in a bad way.
Secondly 3rd gear at 40mph is not our sweet spot! 2nd gear at 40mph is good and 2nd gear at 50mph is our MONEY SHOT!

reading > you. i said it was a joke, and i thought it obviosly was. though i still should have put a smiley there.
torque is fun.
Not sure how smoking from radiator would be head gasket ????
Are you asking a question whether the trans work should take that long? With just taking off the trans 5 hours is minimum charge from the dealer or $500 at least is what i've seen, but to actually fix something inside that will be a hell of a lot definitely over $1000 for synchro replacement i'm guessing here though, sorry man.
For the white smoke, if your hose fell off, that should take 2 seconds, but you might want them to tell you whats really wrong first.

My bad, I missed the radiator hose part!
However, if the hose was on tight in the first place and it blew off under full boost, you could have a headgasket that is blown. What happens is that under full boost it allows the head to lift or the gasket to displace resulting in boost pressure going into the coolant blowing off hoses or plastic radiator seals. This happened to my Integra when the headgasket blew at 15psi.
