meth...the big unknown

i kno it has been discussed before most likely..can someone point me in the right direction or take time out of their day to explain it to me..i kno it is methanol and water mix and it is sprayed into a tb spacer and i kno it helps with cooling and power.
ok here are my questions.
1) does it run continously when the car is on?
2) what is a good mix ratio?
3) how big of a tank should i get (if i get meth) and how long does it last?
4) is it expensive to run in a daily driver?

basically can someone just give me teh 411 on meth becuase i kinda have the basics but i want to konw mroe about it..thanks for the help please dont flame or tell me to search i jsut want all the info in one place is all.

thanks a bunch

you are a tool!

He asked for info not a smart ass comment. If he wanted to gather info and piece it together and hope it was right he would. Thats why we have forums so we can discuss the things we dont know and get all the right facts from the people who do know and have done it. Why do we even have forums if all you are going to post is "search". How about you dont waste your time telling him to search and actually help.

1) No, you set it to kick in roughly at 60-70% or your max boost.
2) most common and easy is a 50/50 mix but others have made more power with a higher meth mix but they have all the cooling mods.
3) I have a 1.5 gallon tank with a 3gph nozzle on right now (im going to be moving up to a 5gph nozzle soon) and it the full take will last me prob 2 to 3 months. I dont get on it a **** ton.
4) No, its not expensive at all. Even if you floor it everywhere its cheap especially for the benefits on the supercharged cobalts. you can get 4 gallons of premixed 50/50 from a vendor on here for like 30 bucks or go make 4 gallons of 50/50 yourself for like 20 bucks tops.

1. No it does not run contstinately, it is based off of boost, for example you can set it to always kick on at 5lbs of boost, or 10lbs of boost. This way its not being sprayed for no apparent reason when your just cruising around.

2. The mixture depends on what you are trying to do, for example if you want a little octane boost to help with detonation, and want a decent amount of cooling a 50/50 mix would work well, or even just plain windshield wiper fluid, however if you want a full out ***** to the wall power only tune then you would want a 90/10 mixture of 90 meth and 10 distilled water.

3. The size of the tank is personal preferrence but I think a one gallon tank is pretty reasonable and will last a decent amount of time. The mix will last as long as you want it to, it just all depends on how often you hit boost. If you keep your foot out of it, a 1 gallon tank can last a month, if you have your foot in it a lot then your looking at 1-2 weeks for 1 gallon.

4. It's not expensive to run in a daily driver at all. If you run windshield wiper fluid it costs roughly 4 dollars a month. If you toss a couple bottles of heet to up the octane it will cost around 10 bucks a month. This is very reasonable considering the gains you receive.

A little random information for you. Methanol/water injection is used to cool down the intake charge. You don't need to use a throttle body spacer, you can tap into your cold air intake. The more methanol you use, the more you can prevent detonation and your octane will be higher at WOT. The more distilled water you use the better the cooling will be for the iat2s. The main reason people use methanol injection is to bring down there iat2's and to keep there motors running safe and clean. The methanol does a great job of preventing detonation/knock. It can actually save a motor if you have a crappy tune and in general helps keep your cyl walls cleaner.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask!

no no no. use the 3gph nozzle first man. when you find someone to tune you THEN put in the 5gph nozzle when you go to get tuned. I would go with the ais meth injections system, thats what i have and its amazing. the motor comes inside the 1.5 gallon tank so its a lot cleaner. Its a trunk mount kit; super easy to install, it comes with 3gph nozzle and i think a 6 gph nozzle. the only think you will need is the throttle body spacer.

You wont need anything else when you buy the kit and I recommend the 5gph nozzle, it works wonders!

Don't grab the throttle body spacer, its worthless. If you are NOT getting tuned, ONLY run distilled water as the methanol will make you run rich. When you get tuned just run windshield wiper fluid and heet. The 3ghp nozzle is fine for lower hp vehicles but if you plan on modding your car and putting down decent numbers go with the 5gph nozzle. I use the 5gph nozzle and its great. Putting down 280whp without the nitrous.

Also I HIGHLY recommend the devils own kit. Sean and Josh are great guys and will help you with any questions you might have too.

3 or a 5 with your mods. You won't notice much until you tune for it and if you tune for it do not ever run out or. Well just don't do it lmao. You do not NEED a throttle body spacer, but it does make it nice. I believe Over the Top Performance has the Devils Own kit at a good price. Great mod IMO.

It's a good idea to put a led light in your a pillar that lets you know when your tank is almost empty. You can also just run a "normal" tune and use the water/meth as a cooling mod and to help with detonation. That way if you run out you will be fine. The only time its bad to run out of water/meth is when you have a tune running lots of timing.

thanks man great info...now i have more questions though lol
1) windsheild wiper fluid? just straight or the 50/50 mix stuff? and that is safe to do correct?
2) the devilowns brew meth mix is that the best to run for cooling and power? or whats the deal with that?
3) is there anything else i would need other than the devilsown progressive kit? besides a tank? and if i go above 1 gallon would it have to be in the trunk?
4) were is a good place to mount the tank/pump?

oh **** they were already answered in the period of me writing that...lol

1. Windshield wiper fluid is roughly 70water/30meth and that is 100% safe to use. They don't make a 50/50 mix, if you want a 50/50 mix add roughly 2-3 bottles of HEET, the yellow bottle. Its pure methanol.

2. The devils own brew is a waste of money, its just methanol and distilled water. If you can find methanol locally it would be much cheaper to buy it in a larger quantity. Most people run windshield wiper fluid and heet though.

3. It's always best to have it trunk mounted to keep the water/meth cooler. If you are going engine bay mounted you would need to tap into the windshield washer fluid tank. I don't believe there is room in the engine bay for a 1 gallon tank. I know for sure there isn't if you have the dual pass with option b. But without it there might be room somewhere, I still recommend trunk mounted though.

4. Best place to mount it as I said is the trunk. I mounted my pump in the wheel well under the carpet by the spare tire and I mounted the tank in the trunk on the black plastic by the trunk latch. That way its very easy to fill and very easy to remove and get to for whatever reason.

Because ALL of those questions have been answered in that thread.

And if you actually read the information instead of having someone answer specific questions, you gather more information.

Eh so far so good man. Over the winter my windshield cracked in about 6 different places. Don't really know why, all I know is I woke up one day went out and it was cracked. I am assuming the cold weather did it though. I couldn't feel the cracks on the outside of the windshield nor on the inside of the windshield so I am assuming it was the weather. If someone cracked the windshield there would be like a point of impact mark and I couldn't find/feel one so I am pretty sure its the weathers fault.

Other then that though car is running absolutely great. I plan on going to a few auto crossing events in april and may which will be pretty fun. There scca events and are usually a good time.

How about your beast, hows she doing? Any future upgrades on the mind?

It doesn't really add much power, its more so a cooling mod and a safety mod then anything else.

ShortStack - Glad to hear your going turbo man, its going to be a lot of fun. I have been thinking about making the switch for some time now but just can't pull the trigger on it. Dropping 5k on a car that I already put a lot of time and money into isn't worth it for me in the end. But who knows, maybe I will grab it later on anyways lol.

Edit: Oh and hptuners is absolutely great. I love it. I randomly will hook it up and drive around and mess with crap, its so much fun lol.

running a tuned 90/10 meth mixture is still reliable for a daily driver isnt it?

ok so would it be alright to run the water meth thru the cold air intake with the ott stage 1 basic tune. "its not tuned for meth" if so i would need to run what mix?? and a 3gph nozzle right?? and would the water/meth not damage the superchager rotors?? rust or what not. sry still a noob.

if you run it without tuning it, youll lose about 5-15 hp.. depending on how your motor takes it.

if your using the 3gph nozzle, you wont lose that much power... but... you should really wait till you get tuned for it.
